Today we’d like to introduce you to Shameka Dudley-Lowe.
Hi Shameka, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
After having breast cancer during the height of Covid, I started planning events that I lovingly call “The Pink Party” to raise awareness. They’ve included a fitness event, a family cook off, a sip and paint and my most recent one, I honored two outstanding women, one who was battling breast cancer and the other who lost her mother and grandmother to the disease. I also threw a four day extravaganza in NYC for my 50th birthday a few years ago that included dinner in Times Square, a private yacht party around the East River and a private brunch for family and friends. It was after my birthday that a close friend encouraged me to start my business.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think the hardest part sometimes is knowing my worth and charging accordingly. People often don’t understand the time and energy it takes to plan and design an event, coordinate the vendors and execute their vision. We often undervalue ourselves just to book the job and then become frustrated because we are pouring everything into the event and didn’t charge properly. That leads to resentment and burnout. Now, I will say no to doing an event before I undervalue my work.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Shameka Nicole Event Planning is a full service company that specializes in creating experiences that exceed my clients expectations. In addition to planning and design, we offer balloon decor, photo booth rentals, custom and LED backdrop rentals and creative keepsakes. We also offer day of coordination so that our clients can be in the moment and enjoy their events. I am most proud of my growth as a business woman because it’s not just about executing events. I am constantly learning new ways to enhance my services, improve my techniques and upgrade my inventory and software so that my clients have the best experiences. What sets me apart is my customer service. I ensure my clients feel seen and cared for while executing their vision. This is evidenced by my repeat clients and referrals. And I’m also proud of the four awards I’ve won since starting my business in 2024, including the She-E-O Events Guru Award in 2025 and 2026. To be recognized by my clients and peers is simply amazing.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t know about luck but faith has played a major role in my life and my business. From battling and beating breast cancer to being blessed with a husband who not only supports me but is often by my side building and transporting items for my events or caring for our children while I’m onsite. I also have an amazing team of women who show up and show out for our clients. I don’t feel lucky, I feel grateful and blessed.
