Today we’d like to introduce you to Smiley Jane

Hi Smiley, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My makeup business started in Chicago 8 years ago. I was a Artsy Fartsy girly and I just graduated high school. I only had experience in painting my whole life but I had no intention on ever being a “broke college student” & after getting my makeup professionally done for prom for the first time and realizing how much people pay for makeup ?! I was SOLDDD. I spent the summer of 2016 perfecting my craft and by December 2016 I began taking makeup clients… I wasn’t always the best but with time, my craft aged like fine wine..

Years go by, my clientele sky rocketed in the Chicagoland Area.. After a bad breakup in 2019 something in my heart wanted to see more for my business. So with 0 experience in traveling , I took a risk on myself. I booked a flight to ATL in March, 2021 to do makeup out of my hotel room for the NBA “Allstar weekend” .

By the grace of God, I was fully booked all 3 days I was in ATL. This pushed me to move here, I knew that Atlanta was the fresh start that would nourish my business how my heart had longed for , building my clientele is definitely different from Chicago but it’s definitely been a great journey & I’m only getting closer to my dreams daily. I’ve met so many super stars, now it’s just gaining the courage to get them in my makeup chair.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Building clientele has been a slow but spiking process. Finding the girlies who get their makeup done consistently is a challenge. Most people here already have their makeup artists they’ve been supporting for years! Most of my clients are people who are just visiting Atlanta with friends. Which is actually pretty cool but I want more!!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I do “All Things Art” , makeup is just the business aspect of my many forms of art!! My speciality is SFX & fantasy makeup. I love doing glam makeup but Painting is my first love, I started in high school & it truly is one of the things that bring excitement into my makeup business. Halloween is always a blast for me!! My favorite look I’ve created so far is my “Red Avatar” look and my realistic “Grinch” look I’ve created of myself.

My Choreography and Dancing is what really lights the fire inside of my soul, I started in church praise dancing and just flourished from there. I have Dance classes here in ATL 1-2 Times per month, Usually Heels, Contemporary or Whine Classes for the Culture.

And last but now least MUSIC. Singing has always been my “baby” ever since I was a young girl, this if the gift that we am most passionate and sensitive about. As a young child I spent a lot of my time “mute” and uncomfortable with speaking out and up for myself and the things I believe in but This is wear I get to express my many different layers in my personality, being a Scorpio there is a lot of depth to experience and explore… if you would like to hear more, my very first EP is dropping on 11/11/24 @ 11:11am. What do you like and dislike about the city?
This is the most Pro Black place I’ve ever experienced. Being a African American woman in America the struggles on finding support as a whole has been almost impossible to find outside of my family but when I came to ATL and witnessed how everyone “Supports Black” , my heart melted and my hope for humanity was restored.
