Today we’d like to introduce you to Teni Bello

Hi Teni, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Teni Bello, short for Oluwateniola, and I’m a 23-year-old master’s candidate at Georgia State University, where I’m studying communications with a concentration in digital media strategies. Born and raised in Newark, New Jersey, I’ve lived in Jersey my entire life. My journey has been anything but easy, but every obstacle has shaped me into the person I am today.

I am the first American-born child in my family, a blessing that my mom often reminds me of. She came to America on her own, pregnant with me, and we faced numerous hardships together from the very start. My family has been evicted over three times, and these experiences of instability and uncertainty are deeply ingrained in my memory. But through these struggles, I’ve learned resilience and the importance of family.

Growing up with four other siblings, we constantly strive to become better versions of ourselves every day. My mom’s strength and determination have been a guiding light for us. Despite the challenges, she managed to provide for us and instilled in us the values of hard work and perseverance. My struggles have become my testimonies, and without them, I wouldn’t be who I am today.

Currently, as a master’s student at Georgia State University, I am passionate about communications and digital media strategies. My academic journey is not just about earning a degree; it’s about harnessing my skills to tell stories that matter, and to give a voice to those who are often unheard. Every class, and every project, brings me closer to this goal.

My story is one of resilience and transformation. From the streets of Newark to the academic halls of Georgia State, I have learned that no obstacle is insurmountable. With determination, a supportive family, and a commitment to personal growth, I believe that we can rise above any challenge.

This is my journey, and it’s far from over. I am proud of where I come from and excited about where I’m headed. Every step I take is a testament to the strength within me and the love and support of my family. Together, we strive for a brighter future, always moving forward, and always rising above.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road to where I am today has been anything but smooth. My journey has been marked by numerous challenges and obstacles, each one shaping me in ways I could never have imagined.

One of the most significant struggles my family and I faced was the constant instability of our living situation. Growing up in New Jersey, we were evicted over three times. The uncertainty of not knowing where we would live next was a heavy burden, especially for a young child. These experiences of instability taught me resilience and the importance of cherishing the security and comfort of a stable home.

Additionally, balancing academics with the demands of family life was never easy. With a single mother of four, there was always a lot going on at home, There were times when the weight of our financial struggles felt overwhelming, but my family’s unwavering support and our collective determination kept me going. I’ve been working since the age of 14, and assisting my mom with the rent bills was my congratulations into adulthood (in middle school). I never got to pamper myself like regular teenagers did, I had responsibilities.

These struggles, while difficult, have become the cornerstone of my character. They have taught me the value of hard work, the importance of resilience, and the power of a supportive family. Each obstacle has been a lesson, and each setback has only strengthened my resolve to succeed.

Now, as a master’s candidate at Georgia State University, I look back on these challenges with a sense of gratitude. They have not only shaped who I am but also fueled my passion for using my education in communications and digital media strategies to tell stories that matter and to uplift those who face similar struggles. So like I said before, My journey has been far from smooth, but it is the bumps in the road that have made the ride worthwhile.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Growing up in an African household, there was always a strong emphasis on pursuing careers in medicine or engineering. Initially, I followed this path, enrolling in school for physics with dreams of becoming an astrophysicist. I was captivated by our solar system and the mysteries of the universe. However, as I delved deeper into my studies, I realized that my true passion lay elsewhere.

Public speaking, sideline reporting, and sports gradually captured my heart. The thrill of the game, the energy of the crowd, and the opportunity to share compelling stories drew me in. I discovered a new path that resonated with my passions and talents.

During my final semester as a senior, I had the incredible opportunity to work with BSE Global for the Brooklyn Nets and the New York Liberty. This experience was transformative, allowing me to immerse myself in the world of professional sports and gain invaluable insights. It solidified my decision to pursue a career in sports media and communications.

In August 2023, I took a leap of faith and moved to Atlanta, Georgia, all by myself, with the hope of continuing my journey in the sports industry. Today, I am proud to work for the Atlanta Dream as a strategic partnership intern. This role allows me to combine my skills in communication and strategic thinking to build meaningful connections and drive impactful initiatives.

What sets me apart is my unique blend of experiences and my unwavering determination. Transitioning from the realm of astrophysics to sports media wasn’t easy, but it taught me the importance of following one’s passion and staying true to oneself. My background in physics has given me a strong analytical mindset, which I now apply to my work in sports, bringing a fresh perspective to the table.

I am most proud of my journey—of navigating through different fields, overcoming challenges, and ultimately finding my calling. Each step of my path has been a testament to resilience and adaptability. Whether it’s reporting from the sidelines or strategizing partnerships, I strive to bring authenticity, enthusiasm, and a deep understanding of the stories that connect us all.

My work is more than just a job; it’s a reflection of who I am and what I believe in. I am dedicated to using my platform to inspire others, to share stories that matter, and to make a positive impact in the world of sports and beyond.

I am also honored to announce my candidacy for Miss Georgia USA 2025, with a vision that extends beyond the crown. My journey to this stage is driven by a personal story of overcoming homelessness, which has deeply influenced my commitment to creating impactful change. As Miss Georgia USA, I will spearhead initiatives that bring awareness to homelessness, working to develop innovative solutions and foster a community of support for those in need. By sharing my story and championing comprehensive strategies to address this issue, I aim to ignite a movement that not only uplifts individuals but also transforms societal perspectives.
