Community Highlights: Meet Dr. Ray Waters PT, DPT, CSCS, CEAS of Prevent & Restore Physical Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Ray Waters PT, DPT, CSCS, CEAS.

Hi Dr. Ray, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My path into physical therapy began earlier than most, long before I understood anatomy or biomechanics. As a teenager, I often sat beside my mom during her physical therapy appointments, watching the process unfold. Even without grasping the technical details, I could see the real-world impact—how skilled care and intentional movement restored not just her strength, but her confidence. That experience planted the seed for what would later become my career.

What drew me in then still inspires me today: the ability to help people heal without relying solely on surgery, injections, or medications that often just mask symptoms. Physical therapy has the power to give people their lives back in a very tangible way, and that purpose has always resonated deeply with me.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road. I have had to roll up my sleeves and get uncomfortable. Like any entrepreneur, you cannot afford to become complacent. Over the past few years, I have learned a wide range of new skills. While I am not an expert in all of them, I have learned how to manage Facebook and Meta ads, maintain a consistent presence on social media, handle accounting, and navigate the many moving parts required to run a successful business.

Another major hurdle was relocating my clinic within the first year of opening. There was a period when I treated patients from 7 a.m. until 5 or 6 p.m., then spent my evenings painting walls, installing baseboards, and hanging recessed lighting. It has been a demanding and unpredictable journey so far, but one I am truly enjoying.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Prevent & Restore Physical Therapy ?
Prevent & Restore Physical Therapy is a private, orthopedic physical therapy practice serving active adults and teenagers in the East Cobb, Marietta, Sandy Springs community. I specialize in treating individuals who want to stay active and perform at a high level; whether that’s CrossFitters, weightlifters, golfers, tennis players, or high school athletes. A large portion of my practice is dedicated to the baseball community, and I am proud to be a sponsor of Walton High School’s baseball program.

What truly sets Prevent & Restore apart is how care is delivered. Every patient receives one-on-one physical therapy for a full hour, every visit, with no double-booking and no shortcuts. In today’s healthcare environment, that level of individualized attention is rare, and it allows me to listen deeply, treat comprehensively, and deliver results that last.

I don’t view what I do as simply providing physical therapy. The solution I offer is giving people their lives back. Injury often takes more than mobility or strength, it can strip away confidence, independence, and the joy people find in the activities they love. My work focuses on restoring all of that. By combining high-level orthopedic care with a personalized, results-driven approach, patients don’t just recover, they return stronger, more confident, and better prepared to stay healthy long-term.

Brand-wise, what I am most proud of is our promise: one physical therapist, one-on-one, for one hour, every time. We do not cut corners. We stand behind the quality of our care, and we are committed to delivering an exceptional experience that prioritizes the person, not the volume. That clarity and commitment define Prevent & Restore.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories is going to my first Atlanta Braves game. I was amazed by how big the field and the stadium felt and that moment has stayed with me ever since. Baseball quickly became my first love as a sport and sparked a lifelong passion for it.

Now, years later, it feels incredibly meaningful to be so involved with young baseball players in the East Cobb and Marietta community. Working with these athletes and helping them grow and reach the next level allows me to hold on to that same excitement I felt as a kid. There are days when I pause and think about how fortunate I am. I truly have one of the coolest jobs in the world.
