Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Green, LCSW.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Elizabeth Green is a Hispanic Licensed Clinical Social Worker and board-certified psychotherapist and the founder of Atlanta Behavioral & Mental Health Counseling. With 15 years in private practice, she’s worked triple the caseloads with her bilingual skills, and worked some of the most challenging diagnoses as a community clinician. By 2023, she had achieved her goals and therefore decided to slow down, but after only 6 months, she became bored and felt unchallenged and as a result heard the, “Calling,” to start a group practice of mental health providers. She then decided to transform her practice into a startup counseling group. The counseling group has continued to grow in Canton over the past year and is actively seeking talented fully licensed counselors in the north Atlanta area areas as she just recently opened an office in the Atlanta/Cumberland area near the Battery.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Elizabeth’s journey to becoming a psychotherapist was a long and arduous path. Beyond the rigorous demands of graduate school at the University of Southern California, she had to accumulate thousands of clinical hours and pass a national exam. During this time, finding employment was a struggle, as no one would hire her until she was fully licensed. Undeterred, she worked as a community clinician, driving several counties away across Georgia to manage caseloads. Her perseverance and dedication were the driving forces that ultimately led to her success.
Other challenges were that after having invested her life savings and having owned restaurants during the Great Recession of 2008, she had to go back to grad school, just to find a way to make a living as a social worker, while pursuing her passion in helping others.
Growing up Hispanic, and having come from a migrant family, the statistics were against her. Statistically she was destined to be a pregnant high school drop out; a member of a gang or drug dealer but she continued to make good decisions on a daily basis thanks to good teachers in her life.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about ATL Behavioral & Mental Health Counseling?
Elizabeth is now a therapist who is merging into the full time Director role at Atlanta Behavioral & Mental Health Counseling, where she now coaches, mentors and supervises others who may be working on their clinical hours. She helps students obtain the clinical hours they need to graduate as therapists and offers therapists a group to join who may not otherwise be comfortable with dealing with the business side of working in mental health. She delegates and streamlines systems across to board to make therapy more accessible for clients with health insurance and she works to provides mental health counseling to some who may not otherwise have access to services due to their special needs.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
She’s learned that everything happens for a reason 🙂 She’s also learned that although she got half way through law school and hated it, it was not a waste of time, as everything she learned comes in handy as she deal with contracts all the time.
She’s also learned that when you are on the right path, you just know and that’s a good feeling. So if you find your calling, follow your path and that passion will guide you on how to make a living at it. Abundance is possible if you stay on the right side of the tracks.
