Hi Jamie & Katie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Jamie:

Jewelry has always been part of my story; it runs in the family. My great-grandfather was a watchmaker, my grandfather a master craftsman who founded Harold Jaffe Jewelers in Toledo, Ohio, and my father followed suit. Growing up in that world taught me not just how to recognize quality, but how meaningful jewelry becomes when it marks life’s most important moments. I knew early on that I wanted to carry on the tradition, but bring something more personal and modern to the table.

After years of hands-on experience including working alongside Lazer Wolf, one of the world’s most respected diamond cutters, I envisioned a space that combined timeless craftsmanship with contemporary design. Brilliant Fine + Custom Jewelry was born out of that vision: to create one-of-a-kind pieces that reflect the people who wear them, while offering exceptional service and artistry, right here in Roswell.

Katie:

While I didn’t grow up in the jewelry world, entrepreneurship and creativity run deep in my family. My background in education and the arts gave me the tools to approach the business from a different lens, one grounded in people, beauty, and storytelling. I’m deeply involved in curating our collections, photographing pieces, managing client relationships, and ensuring every person who walks into our boutique feels welcome and understood.

Brilliant is more than a jewelry store, it’s a place where tradition and innovation meet. Together, we offer everything from simple jewelry repairs to fully custom designs and heirloom transformations. Whether someone is creating their first piece or redesigning a family treasure, our mission is the same: to make sure the experience feels meaningful, collaborative, and lasting.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been smooth, but we wouldn’t trade the journey for anything.

Running a small business, especially in the fine jewelry world, comes with its share of challenges. We’ve had to compete with big-box stores and online giants, all while educating clients about the value of custom design, heirloom transformations, and true craftsmanship. There’s a lot of noise in the industry, and carving out a space that feels elevated, genuine, and personal takes time and consistency.

But perhaps the biggest challenge has been learning how to grow a business while raising a family. Brilliant isn’t just our livelihood, it’s our legacy. We’ve built it together from the ground up while navigating sleepless nights, school drop-offs, and everything in between. That balance can be tough, but it’s also what makes our business feel so personal. When clients walk through our doors, they’re not meeting a sales associate, they’re meeting us. We’re hands-on with every custom piece, every heirloom redesign, and every order.

There have been late nights, tight deadlines, and plenty of moments that tested our limits, but we’ve also had the incredible joy of building something lasting and truly meaningful. Seeing Brilliant grow has been both humbling and motivating. It reminds us daily why we do what we do: to create beautiful things that honor love, legacy, and life’s biggest milestones.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
For us, mentorship has always come through relationships; not through formal programs, but through genuine connection, curiosity, and a willingness to learn. Jamie was lucky to grow up in a multi-generational jewelry family, learning from his grandfather, father, and most memorably, Lazer Wolf, one of the world’s most respected diamond cutters. Those lessons weren’t just about diamonds or craftsmanship, but about integrity, service, and building trust over time.

Networking, for us, has never been about collecting contacts, it’s about building community. Whether it’s chatting with a fellow small business owner at a local event, connecting with a client-turned-friend, or collaborating with vendors who share our values, we’ve always found that the most impactful connections come from showing up authentically and treating people with respect.
