Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeff HOUSTON.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m Jeff Houston, a Louisville-based photographer, videographer, entrepreneur, and co-founder of 502 Fragrances. My creative journey started with a simple love for storytelling and capturing moments that make people feel something. While working full-time at Ford Motor Company, I began teaching myself photography and videography, spending countless hours learning my craft, taking on small projects, and building relationships within my community.
What started as a side passion eventually grew into a business. Through JHouston Productions, I’ve had the opportunity to work with brands, artists, athletes, entrepreneurs, and families, helping them tell their stories through compelling visual content. Along the way, I also co-founded 502 Fragrances, Louisville’s first luxury fragrance brand, which was born from a desire to create something that represented our city in a premium and meaningful way.
My journey hasn’t been overnight. It’s been built on consistency, faith, long hours, and a willingness to bet on myself while balancing a full-time career, fatherhood, and entrepreneurship. Today, I’m focused on continuing to grow both businesses, expanding my presence in Atlanta and beyond, and creating work that leaves a lasting impact. More than anything, I’m grateful for the community, relationships, and opportunities that have helped me get to this point, and I’m excited for what’s next.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wouldn’t say it’s been a smooth road. Like many entrepreneurs and creatives, I’ve faced my share of challenges. One of the biggest struggles has been balancing a full-time career, fatherhood, and building businesses at the same time. There were plenty of early mornings, late nights, and moments where I questioned whether all the hard work would pay off.
Building a creative business while working at Ford full-time meant sacrificing a lot of personal time and learning how to stay disciplined when opportunities weren’t always guaranteed. There were also challenges that came with growing a luxury fragrance brand from the ground up—learning the industry, building credibility, securing partnerships, and figuring things out as we went.
I’ve also had to overcome self-doubt at times. When you’re trying to create something that doesn’t already exist in your city, like Louisville’s first luxury fragrance brand, there isn’t always a roadmap. But every obstacle taught me something valuable and forced me to grow both personally and professionally.
Looking back, those struggles were necessary. They built resilience, strengthened my faith, and helped me appreciate every opportunity that has come my way. The journey is still unfolding, but I’ve learned that success isn’t about avoiding challenges—it’s about continuing to move forward despite them.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about JHouston Productions / 502 Fragrances ?
I wear a few different hats as an entrepreneur. I’m the founder of JHouston Productions, a creative media company specializing in photography, videography, and visual storytelling, and I’m also the co-founder of 502 Fragrances, Louisville’s first luxury fragrance brand.
Through JHouston Productions, I help brands, businesses, artists, athletes, and individuals tell their stories through high-quality visual content. Whether it’s commercial campaigns, brand storytelling, events, portraits, or social media content, my focus is creating work that not only looks great but also creates an emotional connection. I believe every person and every brand has a unique story, and my goal is to capture it in a way that feels authentic and impactful.
With 502 Fragrances, our mission is to elevate Louisville on a national stage through luxury fragrance. We create premium scents inspired by culture, confidence, and craftsmanship while showing that world-class brands can be built right here in Kentucky. What started as an idea between two friends has grown into a recognized luxury brand with customers across the country and partnerships with respected businesses throughout Louisville.
What sets me apart is my ability to blend creativity, business, and storytelling. Whether I’m behind a camera creating visual content or helping build a luxury fragrance brand, I’m focused on creating experiences that leave a lasting impression. I don’t just deliver photos, videos, or products—I help people tell their story and strengthen their brand.
What I’m most proud of is building brands that represent where I come from while creating opportunities that reach far beyond my city. Through JHouston Productions and 502 Fragrances, I’ve been able to work with incredible people, build meaningful relationships, and create work that positively impacts businesses and communities.
I want readers to know that both brands were built through consistency, faith, and a commitment to excellence. At JHouston Productions, we’re passionate about helping people bring their vision to life through powerful visual storytelling. At 502 Fragrances, we’re committed to creating luxury products that make people feel confident and connected. Together, both brands reflect my belief that great storytelling and great experiences have the power to inspire, connect, and leave a lasting legacy.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My biggest piece of advice is to start before you feel ready. A lot of people spend years waiting for the perfect time, the perfect equipment, the perfect plan, or the perfect opportunity. The truth is, most of what I’ve learned came from taking action, making mistakes, and figuring things out along the way.
I also wish I had understood earlier that success is built through consistency, not motivation. There will be days when you’re excited and days when you’re discouraged, but the people who succeed are usually the ones who keep showing up when things get difficult.
Another lesson I’ve learned is the importance of relationships. Talent and hard work matter, but genuine relationships open doors that skills alone often can’t. Treat people well, be reliable, and focus on providing value. Your reputation will become one of your most valuable assets.
Most importantly, don’t compare your beginning to someone else’s middle. Social media often shows the highlights but not the years of work, setbacks, and sacrifices behind the scenes. Focus on your own journey, celebrate small wins, and trust the process.
Looking back, I wish I had spent less time worrying about whether I was good enough and more time believing in what I was building. Growth comes from experience, and experience comes from doing. Start where you are, use what you have, and keep moving forward.
