Today we’d like to introduce you to Jesse Adams.
Hi Jesse, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My friend Allison and I started Multiverse Convention in 2019 (after 2 years of planning) because we wanted to see a fandom convention that was built from the ground up with inclusion as a primary guiding principle. We wanted fans of geeky things to have a place they could feel truly welcomed and appreciated regardless of their background. The 2019 convention was a wonderful experience, although the timing could have been better… the country went into Covid lockdown only a few months later. To keep our momentum going, we pivoted and held our 2020 convention over 3 days entirely online and free to the public. By all accounts, it was a great experience, and it kept us going and evolving through the worst of the pandemic. We came back in 2021-2023 and continued to grow, and in 2024 we moved to a gorgeous, and larger, host venue in Peachtree City. Multiverse 2025 was a great expansion year for us, with an increase in overall attendance and the addition of fun new activities like video gaming. We’re very excited to see what 2026 holds!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The main struggle we ran into was the Covid lockdown happening just a few months after our inaugural event. A lot of in-person events didn’t survive that lockdown since they were unable to hold their events but still had bills to pay. That was difficult to navigate, but we were able to make it through a combination of a robust online 2020 convention and the generosity and support of a growing and tight-knit community. There are some lingering aftereffects for events like ours, ones that folks don’t usually hear about; for example, the hotels that host most conventions like Multiverse also lost a lot of money during the lockdown, and they’ve been trying to make it up ever since by hiking the prices they charge events for hosting. Most conventions, especially smaller ones, run on shoestring budgets and many have been struggling to find host venues they can afford.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Multiverse Convention?
Multiverse is a 3-day geek culture convention held every October in Peachtree City. It’s a weekend of extraordinary fun and community, with tons of things to do for geeks of all stripes. Every Multiverse features 150+ fascinating panels, unique shopping, a stunning art show, video and tabletop gaming, parties, special events, and charity fundraising. We’re known for creating a truly inclusive fandom space where people from all backgrounds feel welcomed and appreciated. Brand-wise, we’ve often been described as fun, quirky, silly, smart, and “aggressively kind.” What we want readers to know about Multiverse is: the only requirements to be a part of our community are 1) have interests you’re passionate about OR want to learn more about, and 2) always treat other human beings with kindness and respect. If that’s you, then no matter who you are or where you come from, you’ll be enthusiastically welcomed at Multiverse.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
The entire creation of a brand-new convention is definitely a risk. There are so many thousands of background details required to put on a great event, details that attendees never see or have to worry about, from host venue contracts to budgeting to marketing, branding, inventory management, accessibility, security, and so on. Any one of those, if done wrong, can tank a whole event. For the 3 days that Multiverse happens each October, a full year of planning and work by about 40 volunteers is required. To accept the risks involved with an event like ours, you have to REALLY believe in what you’re doing–and we do.
