Community Highlights: Meet Jessica Melendez of Divine Cravins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Melendez.

Hi Jessica , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Divine Cravins is the product of a powerful partnership, between myself and my bestfriend Joy, a shared culinary vision, with a deep friendship spanning over 15 years between us.
Originally, the dream of Divine Cravins was sparked by Joy, a culinary powerhouse with 15 years of industry experience working alongside world-renowned chefs in some of New York City’s most prestigious kitchens. A few years after the initial spark, we joined forces, blending her high-caliber NYC kitchen expertise with my 10 years of specialized pastry experience and entrepreneurial drive.
Over the years, we quickly realized that our unique strengths balanced each other perfectly. Working side-by-side, we’ve turned that shared dream into a thriving, creative partnership built on trust, relentless work ethic, and a mutual love for exceptional pastry arts.
Today, as both business partners and lifelong friends, we continue to elevate Divine Cravins, delivering handcrafted, custom treats made with professional precision and passion.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every challenge has helped us grow. Like many small business owners, we’ve faced financial hurdles, rising costs, long hours, and the constant need to adapt while building our business from the ground up.

There were moments that tested us, but our faith, determination, and the support of our customers kept us moving forward. Every obstacle taught us something valuable and helped make Divine Cravin’s stronger. Looking back, we’re grateful for the journey because it has shaped not only our business, but us as business owners as well.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Divine Cravin’s?
Divine Cravin’s is a family-owned food business with two unique concepts: Divine Cravin’s Cookie Shop and Divine Cravin’s Roti Shop. While our cookie shop is known for warm, made-to-order cookies, handcrafted desserts, custom dessert tables, and catering, our roti shop brings authentic Guyanese flavors to the community with fresh roti, curries, breakfast favorites, and homemade Caribbean dishes.

What truly sets us apart is the heart behind everything we do. Our business is rooted in our faith and inspired by Matthew 5:6: “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.” Our mission is to feed the world not only physically through quality food, but spiritually through kindness, love, generosity, and the way we serve others.

Whether someone is enjoying a fresh meal or a warm cookie, we want them to feel welcomed, cared for, and valued. We’re most proud of building a brand that celebrates our culinary backgrounds, our culture, and our faith while bringing people together. We hope readers see Divine Cravin’s as more than just a place to eat, but as a business dedicated to creating meaningful connections and leaving every person a little more encouraged than when they arrived.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
We’d like to encourage anyone pursuing a dream not to give up because the journey gets difficult. Every challenge is an opportunity to learn, grow, and trust the process. Building Divine Cravin’s has taught us that success isn’t just measured by sales or awards, but by the lives you impact and the relationships you build along the way.

We’re incredibly grateful to our family, customers, community, and everyone who has supported us from the beginning. As we continue to grow, our prayer is that Divine Cravin’s will always be a place where people leave feeling nourished, encouraged, and loved. We look forward to serving even more communities and continuing our mission of feeding the world both physically and spiritually.
