Community Highlights: Meet Kristin Ghant of The Unbothered Brand

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Ghant.

Hi Kristin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As a little girl, I’ve always had entrepreneur energy. You know how they say, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure?”. Well, when I was about 12 or 13 I had an eBay store selling office items that was going to be discarded from my father’s office that was out of date for his kind of work but were great quality items to others. Every morning I’d send my father off to ship something to my customers giving him no money to ship it (lol). He still did it happily everyday. After that, IT WAS ON!

Fast-forwarding a few years later, I ended up joining a girl’s mentoring group that really helped me discover the things that I knew I did and didn’t want to do. We did hair, nails, craft jewelry, we were taught business management skills, how to speak in interviews, proper etiquette and tons more. I cried when my parents signed me up for the group but I loved it and it really ended up being one of the best things that happened to me in creating the person that I am today and will be in the future.

Moving along for years after, I was still selling things & doing hair. I had business after business after business and kept failing and failing and failing but I never gave up. The more I kept at it, the more knowledge I’d gained from it. After graduating high school in 2014, I decided to take hair very serious so I then attended Proway Cosmetology School where I had my amazing son Karter halfway through finishing school. I then went back to school after being a mom for a week short weeks. Shortly after, I took ANOTHER break from school to focus on taking care of my home and my son. 2017 I established an urban clothing brand called The Unbothered Brand.

Years after, I worked to provide for my son while realizing I am going in the wrong direction after thinking long and hard 2018, I decided to go back and finish my education in cosmetology school. Gracefully, attending cosmetology school the second time around wasn’t as challenging because I was prepared for it mentally. While going to school, I worked in a salon that was affordable for me while going to school. As time went by, the owner of the salon that I was working at decided that she no longer wanted to be in business & that’s she was considering closing if she couldn’t find anyone to purchase it from her. After a long night of thinking, I decided to speak with the owner about purchasing the salon. On October 1, 2019 I made an executive decision to go along with my decisions and took over the salon and called it “The Unbothered Beautique” October 2, 2019, I graduated Cosmetology school. After completing cosmetology school and now owning my own salon, I am ready to conquer the world from there. I hustle hair and put more into my salon while working on The Unbothered Brand. March 19, 2020, I opened my first boutique in a suite about 3 miles from my salon shortly after opening, I was alarmed that I was excepting my beautiful princess that upcoming November causing me to close six months later for maternity leave). After having my daughter a few weeks later & being Constantly asked when will you be having new items? Where are the clothes? Leaving me no choice with pure excitement to focus more on pushing my clothing brand. December 2021 I silently closed my hair salon not knowing which direction I really wanted to go so I took a leap of faith and transformed my hair salon into what is now the Unbothered in Boutique. March 19, 2022 we had our official opening day for The Unbothered Boutique where we promise to always maintain

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
A smooth road? I don’t know any business that is a smooth road. In business, you have to be pet-prepared for anything. One of the Hardly struggles of doing business is having a faith interest. You have to have faith that others around you will be able to move in a special direction to be able to help your business flourish. You have to trust that the decisions that you’re making are valid.

We will always maintain the highest quality items for affordable prices. We have but is not limited to shirts, tank tops, pants, shorts, skirts, jumpers and rompers, handbags, hats and more. I am proud of my brand because it attracts a variety of people everybody can’t relate to the term unbothered because everybody should be Unbothered. Be Unbothered, Live Unbothered, Shop Unbothered.
