Community Highlights: Meet LaDerricka Long of Kaotic Kurves

Today we’d like to introduce you to LaDerricka Long.

Hi LaDerricka, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been plus size the majority of my life and being from a small town finding clothes that didn’t have me looking like a grandmother at 15 or that I could wear more than once (because the quality was terrible) was hard. Finally thinking that it had to be better options for plus size women I started Kaotic Kurves in 2014. I was working full time and going to school running a business had to be placed on the back burner. Kaotic Kurves relaunched in 2019 and has been a learning experience that I’m loving every moment of. Running a business is hard but I wouldn’t trade it for the world I learn something new about myself everyday.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road hasn’t been smooth at all and I’m sure any entrepreneur would say the same. When I started my business I had no clue what I was doing, I honestly thought that if I brought the clothes people would buy them and I would sell out and that couldn’t be further from the truth. I didn’t know about profit margins, how to price my merchandise, TAXES and etc. Pretty much I didn’t know what I was doing but what I did know is that I wanted to provide plus size women the accessibility to true to size, high quality clothing.

We’ve been impressed with Kaotic Kurves , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Kaotic Kurves is a boutique that provides plus size women the accessibility to high quality true to size clothes that gives them the confidence to step outside of the “rules” society has set for us and try some fun and bold styles.

What sets us apart from other boutiques is that all our clothes are modeled on a real plus size body and when you’re plus size we want to see how the items will fit on us who have stomachs, love handles and, etc.

I’m most proud that we’re helping other plus size women by offering fun and bold styles. Society has always tried to convince us that we should be heard and not seen. Always trying to keep us covered in the color black or terrible floral patterns.

We want our readers to know that we are committed to providing plus size women fun and bold styles that are true to size and of a high quality, Being plus size myself I know how it feels to order something online only to get it and it not fit.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
