Today we’d like to introduce you to Seikras Washington.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
During my early twenties, I attended a local college. At the time, caring for an infant and attending class was a struggle for me. While at college, I studied business. That’s when I got familiar of the benefits of an entrepreneur. Ideas like making my own schedule, controlling my own finances, setting my kid’s future and essentially having control of my destiny was big to me. Of course upon this realization; I had to become my own boss! Even if it was a side hustle, my main focus was to live comfortably. The limitless nature of fashion and its versatility has always intrigued me. One empowering aspect of clothing is how it enables people to express themselves. Because of these interests, I come to the conclusion that I wanted to own a clothing boutique. I started selling clothes out of my home and eventually upgraded to having my own shop downtown of South bend, Indiana.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My biggest challenge for me was being a single mom. It made it harder for me to focus but it also motivated me to not stop. Finances were scarce because I barely had time to work due to my class schedule. I definitely was that person who lived paycheck to paycheck just to make ends meet. How can I order inventory with no money? Thankfully that was just the storm before the rainbow. Another challenge was naysayers, even though I was proud of myself, there was always someone secretly hating from the outside. As I matured, I had to look past that.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
