Today we’d like to introduce you to Zack Boland.
Hi Zack, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Music has been a constant in my life for as long as I can remember. I first picked up drums and percussion in middle school band, and that early spark quickly grew into a lifelong passion. In 2008, I graduated from the Atlanta Institute of Music & Multimedia with a clear vision: to keep performing and to build a career helping others discover the power of music.
While still a student, I began teaching at a music school in the Suwanee area in 2007—and I instantly knew I had found my calling. Sharing music, watching students grow, and learning right alongside them has been incredibly rewarding. Nearly two decades later, I’m still playing every day, continuing to inspire and be inspired by the people I teach.
In April 2025, Zack Boland Music Lessons officially opened its doors after several years of growing out of my home studio. Today, ZBML is more than just a lesson space—it’s a vibrant community hub where musicians, artists, and families come together to learn, connect, and celebrate music. With programs and events for ages 3 to 103, there’s truly something here for everyone.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some of the struggles that I have come across include working in music schools that didn’t have the right vibe as well as the pressure of leading a business in an era that rewards dollars made over the positive impact that our line of work can have over people. I would rather have a school of 100 students who are happily learning and growing as musicians and people than to have a school with 1,000 students who I wouldn’t recognize if I saw them at the grocery store. So, in an interesting way, the road has been pretty smooth because I have never been anyone other than myself. If something is not right for my students and their families then I simply don’t do it. ZBML is a community.
As you know, we’re big fans of Zack Boland Music Lessons. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We specialize in music and art education provided by a staff of educators who are handpicked by me for their welcoming personalities, talent and attention to details. ZBML was created to be the exact opposite of the other music lesson studios in our area. We have no turnover or “revolving door” of instructors. I pay my teachers well for their expertise and the students benefit from that each and every day. We are closed on Fridays and Saturdays since we are all working musicians. On weekends when we’re not performing it’s important to me that we host community events i.e. game nights, community music jams, free concerts, and more! Our school has Pre-K Music and Movement classes for ages 3-5, private music lessons for ages 6-adult in areas such as drums, guitar, piano, vocals, bass guitar, flute, saxophone, etc etc. We also have group classes such as the Lawrenceville Children’s Choir and Art class. We have something for everyone!
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I was born and raised in Atlanta; this is my home. I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else or serving another community.
