Conversations with the Inspiring Candace Victor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Candace Victor.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Candace. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always loved makeup since I was a kid. I watched my mom put it on every morning and I remember thinking “I can’t wait to wear makeup!” I would put it on after she left for work, wear it to school, and wash it off before she got home. When I got old enough to wear makeup, without being sneaky, my love for it grew even more. So, I went to the Gwynnis Mosby Makeup Academy where I was certified as a professional makeup artist and ever since then, I’ve known I wanted to be in the beauty industry. Now, I’m an Atlanta-based freelance makeup artist.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. One of the biggest struggles was, and sometimes still is, building a loyal client in such a saturated industry and not letting that building faze discourage you.

I would advise to find what differentiates you from the crowd and build on that and be consistent with that “thing.” Consistently posting on social media, working to get better, and networking is one of those things that you have to master to grow your business. Once you master that, clients will come and stay.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m a freelance makeup artist. I specialize in mostly glam and beauty makeup for print models, brands, and special events. I’m currently in a program to become a licensed nail technician, so I’ll be offering nail services soon, as well as starting a hair extension line.

I think that being a “Jane of all trades” is what sets me apart. I can do a little bit of everything and I enjoy learning new things that can help me build my brand so that I can leave a good and lasting impression on my clients. I want the ladies to say: “Oh, I go to Candace because I can get everything I want in one place!”

It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
I keep a journal and write my prayers and goals in it. It’s just something about pen and paper that is soothing and I like to go back, read them, and track my progress. It helps me stay focused as well. You’d be amazed at how writing things down helps manifest your dreams and aspirations.
