Conversations with the Inspiring Casey J. (Hobbs)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey J. (Hobbs).

Casey, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am so thankful to say that I am a true “church kid.” My mom is a children’s choir director and my grandmother was her choir director. Outside of home and school, I spent most of my formative years in the local church. Beyond the obvious correlation of my years in church and my current career, I think what I learned most was the posture of truly serving. Even as I retrospectively think of my journey through high school, to college, into ten years of elementary education career, and now as a songwriter and storyteller, the pervasive theme continues to be SERVICE. What I learned on a pew as a little girl has literally taken me all over the world.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t believe that anyone’s journey is without obstacles. Let’s be real- even the Bible PROMISES us tribulation in this life [John 16:33]. But what I have found to be most personally formative is not one isolated “struggle,” but more the daily challenge of navigating decisions and options that best support what I feel I am most clearly purposed to do.

I think therein lies my advice- KNOW YOUR PURPOSE! I don’t mean the fluffy answers, the platforms, or what will make you the most successful. Know what you are called to do. Know where you are called to do it. Know when you are called to commence. Know who you are called to serve. This knowledge helps you know not only what to say yes to, but what to reject with grace.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Although my work has a few different iterations and manifestations, I think I and most succinctly identified as a songwriter and storyteller. My initial introduction to the public was as a gospel artist. I’m so thankful to see my passions expand to being a songwriter, leading people in worship around the world, curating a podcast, creating faith-based digital content, running my own label/production company, and traveling everywhere telling amazing stories about the goodness of God.

I don’t know that I intentionally work to be “unique” or “different.” My goal is always to engage exclusively with opportunities and projects that I am genuinely passionate about. That’s honestly what I’m most of proud of- every day I wake up asking God how I can be of most service utilizing the passions and visions He’s given me. It’s a beautiful life!

For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
I honestly believe that a woman with a clear vision and purpose is well equipped for literally ANYTHING. The amount of power, focus, and passion that is birthed out of a purposed woman is literally indestructible.
