Conversations with the Inspiring Christal Mays, Lady Chris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christal Mays, Lady Chris.

Christal, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My Mother Adora Mays and I have always shared a special bond with all things having to do with creativity. From fashion and interior design to landscape designs. Although we loved all those things, especially loved event planning and decorating! I would always threw lavish events every chance I got and everyone always told me how much I was like my Mother.

Though I loved hearing the praises and being compared to the likeness of her, it was my Mother who could effortlessly create some of the most amazing event designs for so many people, occasions, and budgets. However, all things came to a screeching halt when we discovered she had Breast Cancer and our lives had changed forever. My Mother passed away in March of 2019 and I was devastated. Living didn’t seem fair without her. I was in a deep depression, however my son was to turn one that August and I contemplated giving him a party.

I decided to go ahead and throw him a party. I ran across an organic balloon garland, I reached out to different event companies to purchase one and everyone was completely booked. So I decided to give it a shot. To my surprise, it looked amazing and everyone asked me, “Do you do this for a living?” I’d say no and my good friend Keta said: “how long are you going to let your talent go to waste?” I still declined the thought lol. After a few days, I had received an email that I had been declined access to an LLC name for another business I was trying to start. I gave it some thought and it’s like the name for my company AdoraBalloons literally fell from heaven. I immediately acted on it and I was approved! I took it as a sure sign from my Mother that this is what I need to do so I bought some cheap balloons and I practiced any and everything until I mastered it and I haven’t looked back.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It is not. A smooth road at all! One reason is I’m not from Georgia and I don’t have that many connections yet. Two the support I expected to receive from some friends and family I didn’t get. Even still, I’m consistent, I practice, and I make and connections online. I keep telling myself that this is the necessary journey to get where I want to be. I have a supportive small circle who affirms me often and I keep pushing forward. That’s all we can do… hold on to the vision in our minds, make it crystal clear of our intentions and take action!

what should we know about AdoraBalloons? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We cater to all your event decorating needs. From our amazing plush balloon designs to our breathtaking centerpieces, the list goes on and on. We specialize in all things Dramatic when it comes to the Client’s event needs. We have a saying “There are balloons and then there’s AdoraBalloons” Something people use to tell my mother, “there’s tables and then there’s Adora’s table.”

I take special pride in not only being competitive within this industry but really setting the bar high so you know you’re getting the absolute best with us. Our special attention to detail is only a small factor in taking a Clients vision to the next level.

I love the connections I’ve made on IG. I’ve learned a lot on YouTube about growing a presence on social media. My gym community of friends helps me with my health and making sure that I’m making good decisions so that I’m always at tip-top. I have a ten-year-old daughter and a one-year-old son who constantly inspires me. I read and have read many books but fictional books are the most inspirational because it unlocks my mind to be creative and believes that I can do and create things that I’ve never seen or imagined.
