Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenoir Lynne’ Ferebee.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve been obsessed with lashes and all things beauty since I can remember. The first time I learned about mink lash extensions was back in 2010, watching an episode of The Real Housewives of Atlanta. I was instantly intrigued by the luxury service and immediately began to research more information about them. At the time, lash extensions were not “a thing” in my hometown of Baltimore, MD so it wasn’t until a few years later that I had actually obtained my lash training to become a certified lash artist. When I moved to Atlanta in 2014, lash extensions were really big here so it was the perfect opportunity for me to do the lash services full time and finally make a career of it. I knew I wanted financial freedom and the luxury of having a flexible schedule so I knew I had to go hard and make this work. I started out working at a salon in a commission based position to help build my clientele. During that time, I had a lot of people who were interested in learning lash extensions asking if I could teach them and I thought “hmm I could add a training sector to Minks.” I’ve always had a love of teaching and a nurturing spirit, plus a love of sharing knowledge so becoming an educator came naturally to me. By 2015, I had my first space and had begun my lash product line. I had also begun to incorporate other services like eyebrow microblading and new training classes. In less than a year, I had outgrown my space and moved into my Buckhead location. At that point, I had built a reputation for my business and was in high demand for my classes, products, and services. I now have incorporated non-surgical body contouring into my business, have over 15 beauty training classes, and travel to all major cities to train hundreds of women each year; establishing Minks Beauty Institute as a top rated, full service continued beauty education academy.
Has it been a smooth road?
Entrepreneurship is never a smooth road. One of the biggest struggles for me was just feeling like I had no control over what happened next because of the unpredictable nature of being a business owner. Before my beauty career, I worked a normal 9-5 and had a consistent paycheck, scheduled lunch times, and overall predictability; It was comfortable. As an entrepreneur, we have peaks and valleys. One week, you can sell out of products and the next week you may only sell 10. So, I had to learn to roll with the punches and accept the peaks and valleys of this business. I’ve been blessed to have maintained consistency and have accomplished much success in such a short time without the help of reality TV or celebrity endorsements. If I could give another up and coming businesswoman advice, I’d tell her to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. In those moments we grow the most and become the greatest version of ourselves.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a Beauty Educator, Master Lash Extension Artist, Master Microblading Artist, and Body Contouring Technician with a background in esthetics. I specialize in luxury lash products and semi-permanent beauty enhancements. I’m known for transforming lives and giving women (and a few men) new skills in the beauty industry to help them better their lives. I’m most proud of the training facet of my business. Nothing is more fulfilling to me than getting to watch my students grow into their greatness. I not only train my students but I’m their mentor too. What sets me apart from other trainers is that I actually care about my students and want them to succeed. I want to see them soar higher than me. It’s not about the money at all for me, I really believe I’m giving them something priceless. This is my purpose in life. Not many other beauty trainers can say that.
It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
My must-have apps are the Bible app and the Unique Daily Affirmations app. As an entrepreneur, it’s so important for me to be in a positive mind state and to be a problem solver. These apps help me to stay empowered and mindful.
