Conversations with the Inspiring Kenda Davis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenda Davis.

Kenda, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was fading in a colored world that highlights whiteness. I felt unseen and unheard because I lived in a society that says, directly and subliminally, that I don’t matter, mainly due to the disease of colorism and colonization. Lost in an ever-consuming world of vindictive greed, external beauty, and monarchial status, I knew that as a black woman with my complexion, I would never be seen for who I am. I was lost in the collective unconscious, with just a glimpse of hope. With that hope, I developed the belief that I was my own light and safe haven, and if I wanted a better internal world, that it was up to me. So, I took responsibility for my life and set out to find myself beneath the conditions of society. I intentionally traveled to the core of my being to get to know her. I refer to this process as “intentional self-work.” By engaging in this work, I have discovered that I am a woman that takes life too seriously because I understand my purpose. I found that I am an infinite source of love and hope. I am growing to understand that I am both darkness and light by acknowledging and accepting the beauty and pain in both. I am also finding ways to incorporate more laughter and fun into my life. Today, I hold space for marginalized groups to elevate by traveling within and connecting with a frequency that may vibrate differently than society’s current standards. In my life’s work, I seek alignment and balance and offer this work to others.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, the road hasn’t been completely smooth. The struggles I’ve experienced are related to not having clear business intentions and managing finances. Having a clear vision before investing in your business is important. At the start of my entrepreneurial journey, I was more concerned with marketing/branding myself rather than being intentional about the services and quality of work that I would offer the public. Given that, I suffered from the “cart before the horse” mentality, I spent thousands of dollars on a website, email accounts, marketing materials, and educational programs that weren’t aligned with my business. I suggest that entrepreneurs spend adequate time designing their business and services before branding themselves on social media and abroad.

What should we know about Life Flourishes, LLC? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I hold space for marginalized groups to engage in radical self-care experiences. I combine ancient-eastern philosophies and modern-western sciences to move people toward greater well-being. This work actualized looks like self-care workshops that include, but not limited to, yoga, meditation, journaling, and coaching. As a brand, I am most proud of the community/tribe that my teams and I have attracted and how we’ve helped them elevate to a higher consciousness and deeper understanding of self.

For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
Yes, of course! The pendulum is finally swinging back towards the elevation of woman. I believe that the world is in critical need for feminine energy. Our world – beings and nature – are suffering and is unbalanced due to the lack of the divine anima (feminine energy). This is the time for women to take up space and offer our gifts to the universe. Women are well positioned for the mental health field (i.e., clinical psychology, school psychology, positive psychology, etc.) because it demands that the practitioners are in touch with their intuitive nature. All women possess a strong awareness of intuition if she accepts it. Women holding space for their well-being and the world was once actualized with the women in ancient-Egyptian times, and the Dahomey Mino of the Fon people.
