Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandria Jade.
Hi Alexandria, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I actually enjoy when people ask me this question. It reminds me of how far I’ve come as a creative and individual.
At the age of 19, after my freshman year of college, I decided to move to Atlanta. I had always enjoyed creating and editing visuals as a child, but little did I know that these skills would lead me into wanting to work in film. I knew that collegiate volleyball was no longer of interest for me, but once I began consistently editing in college a feeling of pure excitement arose.
When I moved to the city, the journey was hard. I had a lot of naysayers and critics reminding me I wouldn’t excel without a college degree. Then… once the quarantine was in full effect 2020, I felt I had made a terrible decision. The film industry had completely shut down.
Thankfully I didn’t let my heart or my mind deceive me. I decided to keep working hard and remained patient and things eventually became brighter.
A lot of the things that have happened during my process haven’t always been in my control however, I do see the silver lining and I’ve been working towards the vision every day! I am a student to this thing called life and I am very much looking forward to learning how I will achieve all of my dreams.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
As I mentioned before, from the outside looking in a lot of people believe a college degree is the only way to be successful. I’ve been on set with people who have attended SCAD, The Art Institute of Atlanta, and so many other fancy institutions. These big names used intimidate me when I was first starting off.
The biggest thing I’ve learned from working in the entertainment industry is to connect and work hard. If you have an idea, do not hesitate to begin working on it. I’ve also learned that uniqueness goes a long way. Shine! Don’t ever stop shining.
Believe it or not the world needs more sunlight. Creative sunlight at that. When you are focused on your path you also realize a lot of your former friends or colleagues no longer identify with the person you are becoming. That is completely normal and okay. You just have to keep going. The people who want to see you win will see your work ethic, passion, and ability to learn and grow. They will be honest with you and it’s important to not take any of it personal.
If it’s one thing that I have learned by being a student-athlete is to be coachable and disciplined. I’ve applied these tools to the film world and I’ve allowed myself to flourish each day.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Currently, I am a podcast host working in Film and Television.
“Having It Made” is a podcast that I created during the quarantine. The project started off as a way of expressing myself verbally and musically. I eventually turned the project into a platform where I interview upcoming artist and producers.
The artist can be independent, signed, freelance, it does not matter. We are looking for new music to share and spread globally through the platform.
Surprisingly, to enhance my love for music and music editing… I’m currently in the works of dropping my first mixtape ever. A new project that I’ve been working on for about a month now! Mixing has really helped me mentally and emotionally. We love it here.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I actually am a podcast listener outside of creating and working on my own podcast.
I’m an ultimate fan of “Small Doses with Amanda Seales”. I think that she is hilarious and incredibly remarkable when it comes to a topic of interest. “Issa’s Raedio Show” is a good one! This show creatively influenced “Having It Made”.
I’m currently using this app called “I Am” that notifies me positive affirmations around five times a day. I love it! Books? I am now reading “How To Do the Work” by Dr. Nicole LePera.
