Today we’d like to introduce you to Anita Seamans.
Hi Anita, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I fell in love with photography the moment I became a mom. 🤍
For five years, I was a stay-at-home mom, and my world revolved around my kids and the little moments we shared every day. I started taking pictures just to hold onto those memories—the laughter, the chaos, the quiet in-between moments. Without realizing it, photography became something I truly loved.
As time went on, I became curious about editing and learning how to make my photos even more meaningful. That’s when I realized I could turn my creative side into something more. One Christmas, my husband gifted me my very first beginner professional camera—and that gift changed everything.
I taught myself how to use it, how to edit, and how to grow. I started taking photos of my friends and their families, and with every session, I fell deeper in love with what I was doing.
By the end of 2022, around Christmas time, I made the decision to take a leap and start my own small photography business. I was scared—there are so many incredibly talented photographers in my area, and I felt like I still had so much to learn. But as I started booking clients, I also started growing. I improved with every session, every challenge, every story I got to capture.
Meeting my clients and helping them create memories they’ll cherish forever is the most rewarding feeling. I’m so grateful for every single person who has trusted me—they push me to be better, to keep learning, and to have fun doing what I truly love.
I also want to thank the small businesses in my community who have supported me and partnered with me along the way. It means more than you know.
This journey is just getting started, and I’m so excited for what’s ahead as I continue to grow, learn, and pour my heart into my photography business. ✨
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road, but every challenge has helped me grow into the photographer I am today.
Starting out, I struggled a lot with self-doubt. There are so many talented photographers, especially in my area, and it was hard not to compare myself or feel like I wasn’t ready yet. I also had to learn everything on my own—how to use my camera, how to edit, how to work with lighting, and how to run a business. Balancing all of that while being a mom wasn’t always easy.
Finding clients and putting myself out there felt intimidating. I had to step outside of my comfort zone, learn how to market myself, and build confidence in my work. There were even moments where some clients didn’t love their photos, and that was really hard—but those experiences pushed me to get better, improve my skills, and pay attention to every detail.
But over time, with every session and every client, I started improving. Each challenge pushed me to learn more, try new things, and trust the process. Looking back, those struggles were necessary—they shaped my style, my confidence, and my interest in photography .
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a lifestyle and family photographer, and my work is all about capturing real, meaningful moments. I specialize in photographing families, children, and everyday memories—the kind that might seem small now but become priceless over time. I love creating images that feel natural, warm, and full of emotion rather than overly posed.
What I’m most proud of is how far I’ve come as a self-taught photographer. I started with no formal training—just a love for capturing my own kids—and turned that into a growing business. Seeing my clients trust me with their memories and knowing they’ll cherish those photos for years means everything to me.
I think what sets me apart is the heart behind my work. Because I’m a mom, I understand both sides—the excitement of wanting beautiful family photos, but also the reality of how stressful it can feel. Kids don’t always cooperate, and sometimes husbands aren’t too excited about photos either. That’s why I focus on making my sessions fun, relaxed, and pressure-free. I create an environment where families and couples can connect, be themselves, and actually enjoy the moment instead of feeling stressed.
I’m also always learning and growing. I don’t just show up and take pictures—I put intention into improving, trying new ideas, and giving my clients the best experience I can. For me, it’s not just about photography, it’s about telling your story in a way that feels real and lasting.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite childhood memories is simply being with my family—sitting around the dinner table, laughing and sharing stories. I loved playing outside in my neighborhood, going to the river with my dad and siblings, and watching sunsets and rainbows. I’ve always loved being outdoors, and I think that’s a big part of why I fell in love with photography—it brings me back to those simple, beautiful moments.
