Today we’d like to introduce you to Charmagne Grant.
Hi Charmagne, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I, Charmagne Grant known to all as “CHAR” was born in Jamaica, raised in NYC, and has made Atlanta my home for over 20 years. With over 25 years of experience in the beauty industry, I am currently rubbing shoulders with top celebrity stylists and fashion designers. One of the Emerging Elite as seen in August 2014 issue of Jezebel Magazine.
I must admit I have come a long way from doing hair in that built in salon my father designed for my mother growing up in NY. I always dreamed that this is what I would be doing but never imagined making such an impact amongst my peers and in my community. As a single mother this career choice gave me such an opportunity to provide for my son, the flexibility of being available to watch him grow and support his dreams as well as change the lives of those around me. One thing I know for sure is when you do what your passionate about everything falls in place to allow you the ability to be used for your greatest good.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I think of challenges I often refer to the journey of finding my place in the salon business. The transition from working with my mom when I first moved to Atlanta in her full service salon to stepping out on my own paying booth rent in a barber shop. Some of my greatest moments were created in that barber shop and then I’ve had moments working alongside salon owners who were in it for the money not the passion. I see obstacles as a set up to see how you respond to the fire. So picture a team of stylists who do nothing but create magic working alongside each other for 3+ years to wake up one day to our trusted owner selling the salon from up under us. Can you say “Obstacle”!!! This was a major pivotal moment in my career and I made the decision in the fire to open up my first salon. I’ve worked in salon studios and even embarked on a partnership but in everything in life there is a reason and a season and this thing called life has given me the opportunity of working with some great individuals. I can say each phase of my journey has given me an experience good, bad and ugly that has helped to mold me into the business woman I am today. Remember Diamonds are created under pressure.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My Char brand is multi-faceted. It is an interactive, informative and educational platform shared with family, friends, clients and associates seeking enlightenment. I believe in the empowerment of women. I believe in healing women holistically inside and out. As a master licensed cosmetologist I have been able to accomplish this through my craft in the beauty industry. Specializing in natural healthy hair care, precision cuts and a multitude of weaving techniques. I have created my very own all natural hair growth serum which is giving life to women with thinning hair and to those looking to increase hair growth naturally. Make up, lashes and microblading (tattoo of the brow) are also services I enjoy offering my clients.
Through my personal pain and struggles in life I have been a voice for many and a comfort to even more. As a self proclaimed therapist I created Char Therapy as my platform to empower and celebrate women through self love and beauty. I have a lot to share and am honored to do so on this platform.
What makes me different from other Diva stylist is my huge vision and dynamic yet down to earth business lifestyle. Having competed in many on stage hair competitions and working alongside Easter Seals Foundation, My Beauti Network, and on the set of Bravo’s own Married to Medicine has opened many doors to working with such celebrities as Angie Stone, Jamie Foster Brown(Sister 2 Sister Magazine), Dr. Heavenly(Married to Medicine), Princess from Crime Mob and not to mention Fortune 500 executives and Political representatives.
My community efforts are definitely noticed and I have been honored by the State Of Georgia with an award by the Secretary of State for Outstanding Business and community outreach. My team and I have been a solid force in our community, by providing mentorship to young women, our annual back to school events, toys for tots, formal dress drive for our graduating seniors and our feed the homeless initiatives. Again bringing a passion for my craft and a commitment to changing lives.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
In my experiences it was never luck. It was divine alignment. Everything was a lesson and not a loss. My story has molded me in life and business to appreciate every aspect of this journey and I am grateful for the lessons that became blessings.
