Conversations with DJ King

Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ King.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey started in Kankakee, IL. I started off as a club promoter. Throwing concerts, comedy shows and celebrity events. Eventually I started DJing my own events and becoming well known in the Chicago area. I moved to Atlanta GA in 2013 and worked my way up the ranks as one of the most recognizable Dj’s in the city. Having appearances on Love & Hip Hop, Black Ink Crew and more. I’m currently a full time Dj in Atlanta. Djing at nearly every major club and party in the Buckhead area. I specialize in Video Djing and Karaoke as well. I got where I am today by networking and hard work. I moved to Atlanta barely knowing one person.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I can honestly say that I’ve had a much smoother road than most Dj’s in the city. I was able to secure a house residency within my first year of moving to Atlanta and I have always had a residency since. All of my gigs and venues have been premier locations in the Atlanta area. The only struggles have been with some promoters not paying on time. Atlanta is not a good city to work in if you’re not on your business.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a full-time Dj in Atlanta, GA. I specialize in djing some of the hottest parties in the area and what sets me apart is that I’m also the BEST video Dj in the city. Playing all the newest and hottest videos all night. I really can transform ANY event or venue into a different and memorable experience. I’m the most proud of I took a different direction from most DJs and really worked hard to make it necessary to have a video Dj at your venue. I’m also proud that I’ve done my career in Atlanta solo. No management, no radio, no artists. Just me. My name. My brand.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I have several mentors and friends who have helped me along the way and always believed in me. All the venues that brought me in and kept me working every week. Countless Dj,s, friends. Way too many to name have really helped me along my journey and I’m very thankful to have had such a dope support system and network.
