Conversations with Earl “E.Dot” Hackney III

Today we’d like to introduce you to Earl “E.Dot” Hackney III.

Hi Earl “E.Dot”, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Detroit, MI around music . Since a toddler my uncles (Musical Band DEATH: Known for creating the genre Punk Rock) exposed me to the work ethic and importance of music in our lives and the world.

Hip hop grabbed me around the age of 10-11 and that’s when I made my first rap song.

I was blessed to work with my mentor (Yusuf Jibril) who at the time was the music producer for Royce Da 5’9. He helped mold me and my sound and connected me with alot of people in the music industry.

During my college years I was in a male/female rap duo called E&J , where we met our Manager DJ Butcher . We were blessed to open up for huge acts such as New Edition, Lil Wayne, Lil Mo, and many more .

After college we moved to Atlanta, and continued creating music and I gained a passion for producing as well as writing.

A few years later, I pursued my solo career as a Christian rap artist, and was blessed to open with artists such as Canton Jones, Francesca Battistelli, 1k Phew , and many others.

Currently, I have released a few singles on all platforms including a song with RNB superstar Lloyd, called “Y.O.U”.
I am also producing for other artists, and have had the opportunity to work on shows aired on B.E.T, Bravo TV, and MTV networks. Most recently (Married to medicines Dr.Scott, music releases).

Most recently, I am featured on a song with (Soul For Real Group Member, Kushion Music) . The song is a afrobeat/rnb mix called “Luv On Me” and is available on all platforms.

I am also working on a new solo project , set to release later (2026).

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely has not been a smooth road . As an independent artist, you have to juggle The music and your personal life . Meaning you still have bills and family to take care of while pursuing the music.

Everything comes out of your pocket , so it can get challenging. But if it is your passion , you will trust the process and keep going .

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Most of these are mentioned on the first question . But I am most proud of not giving up. I’ve seen so many talented ppl think because they’re a certain age or their plan hasn’t came to fruition yet, that they have to stop. Best advice I can give is keep your eyes on the prize and never lose your motivation.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I would say the biggest risk I have taken most recently, is my music genre. Even though my roots are hip hop , once you go gospel or Christian, automatically everyone wants to put you in a box and keep you there. I have a passion for music and different genres. It doesn’t mean I love God any less , or turned my back on the Christian community. God gave me a passion for all music and I intend to pursue that until I’m gone.
