Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Joice.
Hi Elizabeth, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story began long before I had a formal title in design. I’ve always been creative and drawn to the way a space can shape how people feel and live. As an Indiana native working toward a degree in interior design, life redirected me when I stepped in to help with the business operations of my family’s fruit farm. That chapter gave me a foundation in hard work, leadership, and entrepreneurship — lessons that still shape how I run my studio today.
After marrying and starting a family, our farm became more than a business; it became the backdrop for raising my children and building a life rooted in creativity, hospitality, and connection. Over the years, my instinct for composing thoughtful, layered interiors continued to grow, eventually leading me back to school to pursue my passion for design.
Today, I operate every facet of my own interior design business, from the creative vision to the client experience and day-to-day operations. When needed, I collaborate with rendering and elevation specialists, but the heart of the work remains deeply personal. Each project is an opportunity to create homes that feel refined, meaningful, and deeply connected to the people who live in them. I also offer paid summer internships to interior design students, giving them hands-on experience in both the creative process and the business side of design — something I believe is essential for the next generation of designers.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, but is any road worth taking smooth? I truly believe it’s the bumps along the way that have shaped me and taught me. I’m constantly learning from the unexpected. Somedays that feels really challenging, but I think as I get older, I’m able to slow down and see things for what they are and then decide what my next approach will be.
Balance has been the biggest challenge for me. I want to be all things to all people all of the time and that is just not sustainable. Learning to say no or asking people to wait has been really hard for me.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am the founder and principal designer of Elizabeth Joice Interiors, a full-service interior design studio known for creating refined, layered, and deeply personal homes. My work is rooted in the belief that good design should feel both elevated and livable — spaces that are beautiful, but also meaningful to the people who inhabit them.
I specialize in full-scale residential interiors, from new construction and renovations to furnishings, materials, styling, and artful finishing details. I’m especially drawn to interiors that balance sophistication with warmth: thoughtful architecture, rich textures, collected pieces, unexpected details, and a strong sense of place.
What I’m most proud of is the trust I build with my clients. Design is personal, and inviting someone into your home — and your vision for how you want to live — requires vulnerability. I take that responsibility seriously. My goal is never just to select pretty things, but to create spaces that support the lives, memories, and experiences happening inside them.
What sets my work apart is my ability to blend creativity with real-world function and a very hands-on understanding of the entire process. I operate every facet of my business, which allows me to stay closely connected to the vision, the details, and the client experience from beginning to end. Whether I’m designing a single room or a multi-thousand-square-foot remodel, I approach every project with the same level of intention, care, and artistry.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Trust the process- and it is always a process. From completing a job and looking for the next fit to come, to finding trades people who can support your creative vision, to supply chain issues, and job site delays, the reluctant client….. the list goes on. I’m lucky enough to say that 100% of the time so far (knock on wood) it always works out. Maybe it worked out in a way I hadn’t anticipated, but it worked out.
