Conversations with Iris Perez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Iris Perez.

Hi Iris, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born in Chicago, IL, We moved to Puerto Rico when I was five, and when I turned 21 I moved to New York City. Back then, they only had my space so there wasn’t really an outlet like IG and TikTok in which are my favorite two I love to post content on. I really found a passion for makeup in 2011 and started creating looks until I felt comfortable enough to share with my loved ones.

I then moved to Alabama, and as I got better I started doing makeup for prom, weddings and photoshoots. That’s where high fashion shoots knocked on my door of interest and I fell in love!

After a while, I was doing makeup on clients that were models until one day I wanted to try being a model myself. It wasn’t easy! I honestly felt like I had two left feet! I met some really great humans that helped me work with my walk and feeling comfortable in front of the camera. One of the trainings I had was with Liris Crosse. If you know, YOU KNOW. Best experience I had. Long story short, modeling is part of my soul!

Honestly, it’s been a wonderful experience these past five years. I’ve met so many beautiful creators, photographers and designers if so many different backgrounds that I’m just blessed to be able to make their vision come true.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been easy, specially being a plus-size model. Either your not too “healthy” or your just a fetish. Let’s just get something straight, I’m healthy, I just have a little extra love that God decided to sprinkle on me. Either you like it if you don’t. Either way, I’m going to continue to be me. So watch out world!!!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m known for being a model and of course, I’m so proud of it! But I am also a makeup artist, model coach, and did I mention I published my very first body positive coloring book?

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I had a rough childhood. I had to grow up before I even hit 5th grade. At the age of ten, I was taking care of my five years old sister and my newborn little brother while my mother had to work double shifts to keep us with a roof over our heads. I always had a great imagination, and when I had some time I would make believe I was the main character of my favorite soap opera called “Maria la del Barrio.”
