Conversations with Joe Trufant

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Trufant.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve written songs since I was in middle school, but I released my first song when I was 15 years old. I’ve since scrubbed the internet of those early songs that weren’t very good, but my first professional release was my EP in 2015 called Fall Through and I’ve kept releasing music ever since. I’m originally from a small town in North Carolina called Brevard, but I moved to Atlanta a few years back to take my music to the next level. I’ve spent a lot of time in LA, NY, ATL and Miami, but when it came time for me to pick the next place to live Atlanta was an easy pick. My hometown of Brevard is only 3 hours away from Atlanta and with it being in the same region of the south makes Atlanta feel the most like home.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There have been plenty of ups and downs, but the ups have been some of the best moments in my life and the downs have taught me many valuable lessons, as well as how to move correctly in this industry. I’d say that some of the most frustrating times in my career have come from me listening to too many people around me and not following my gut. I’ve since learned to always follow my gut.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I make songs and I try to make people’s days better with my music. I think what I’m most proud of is that I’ve never sacrificed my moral compass to get ahead in this industry. I try to just show up every day and make the music that I love and if other people happen to like it then it’s a win-win. I’ve been very blessed in that regard.

Any big plans?
I plan to continue to grow my audience and continue to release music. Also, I’m starting my own label soon. I haven’t announced that yet, but that’s something that I’m putting together now.
