Conversations with Jordan Perry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Perry.

Hi Jordan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Jordan Perry, AKA “JP” or “Jor.” I was born and raised in New Castle County, Delaware, a place that played a major role in shaping my passion for music and the arts as a whole. I’ve always had an on-and-off relationship with songwriting, but music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I’ve been creating songs since at least first grade. One of my earliest memories with music is hearing the song Bloodsport by J Dilla in my dad’s 2003 Cadillac.

That first listen left a lasting impression on me. From then on, I knew I had a deep love for hip-hop, and as I got older, I found myself becoming more immersed in the culture and the music that inspired me. Throughout that journey, I attended Cab Calloway School of the Arts where I discovered my passion for Theatre and met some of my closest friends. This school gifted me connections that will last me a lifetime. And with Delaware’s hip-hop scene being anchored in Wilmington, my environment naturally reignited my passion for songwriting.

Being a Delaware rapper sometimes comes with its own stigma due to not having any household names and our biggest artists being primarily underground. Throughout middle and high school, my perspective on Delaware’s underground community shifted. From house parties to our school’s open mic nights, I was exposed to a plethora of artists I had never heard of. Some notable figures include TME (Trifecta Empire), Shizz Nitty, & Bobby Dime$ (R.I.P.). Before I knew it, my friends and I were on those same stages and speakers.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As much as I tried to force it to be, that was part of the problem. I’ve always had huge dreams and aspirations but that’s the part that doesn’t require much work. As an artist, once you publicize your work, you’re accepting however people choose to internalize it. My lack of self-confidence made this difficult to grasp and sit with. When it came to executing my ideas, I’d let them consume me before I even started. It got to the point I quit, multiple times.

I struggled to find a why after a while. Why create if I feel I can’t express myself freely? Why create if I can’t find happiness in the process of creating? Why create in a world that rewards and prioritizes capital greed over authenticity? So many whys.

The truth is, you can’t rely on anyone else to give you your gumption, no matter what you’re going through. You have to want it for yourself more than anybody else around you. You must be your own “why?” Once I stopped making art from the anxieties of how I’d be perceived, I found my spark a third time and detached myself from seeking people’s approvals.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a multifaceted artist with a love for theatre, music, and visual art. I partake in solo film and skit making as well as improvisation gigs from time to time. I love performing and have had some notable venues while working with organizations like TME (Trifecta Empire) and Rainbow Records. Other notable collaborations of mine include my music videos with Fish Tank and Blockworktv where I performed my songs “HELLRA!SER” and “Been Valid 2 (Note to Self)” live.

While I continue to make a name for myself in Delaware’s underground community, I also represent the multi-media collective known as I.L.L.M.E.D.I.A.
We each are unique in our creative processes but share the desire to influence, unify, and strengthen our art communities. As far as my solo creations go, I am currently working on two multimedia projects that capture different parts of my life and different sides of my personality.

The “Jor V Man” project is a series of works that slowly capture the story of how Jordan Perry became who he currently is and the predictions of who and or what he’ll become in the future. Touching on numerous subjects throughout this project, the biggest ongoing theme is internal/self conflict. This story will be told from the lens of Jor’s inner child while simultaneously being told from his present day self. My EP “WALK THE PATH OF DESTRUCTION : THE PRECIPICE OF CHAOS” is my proudest creation from this project so far.

“The Young & Reckless” project was kicked off a year after “Jor V Man” was created. This project captures Jordan’s more courageous yet laidback side of life. His ideologies of what he believes to be a reckless lifestyle come to light in each song and short film , creating their own unique experience. This is him unapologetically being himself & living with no regrets.

What I believe sets me apart from others is my versatile relationship with creativity, my vulnerability, and my punk-hippie like attitude.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happy is bringing my visions to life and turning ideas into tangible creations. There’s something deeply fulfilling about starting with a concept in my mind and following through until it becomes something real that others can see, hear, and connect with. I also find happiness in watching people heal, grow, and step into better versions of themselves over time. Seeing positive change, whether in individuals, relationships, or circumstances reminds me that growth is always possible. Change is the only true constant in life, and witnessing things evolve for the better gives me hope, perspective, and a greater appreciation for the journey. Together, creativity and transformation are what bring me the most joy and purpose.
