Conversations with Kennedi Curry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kennedi Curry.

Hi Kennedi, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m originally from Gastonia, North Carolina, where faith, service, and community were foundational parts of my upbringing. My late grandfather was a bishop, and my mother currently serves as a pastor, so from an early age I was surrounded by people who dedicated their lives to helping others. Looking back, having a heart for people was always woven into my story.

I attended The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Business Studies. While my academic foundation began in business, I eventually felt called toward work that would allow me to make a more direct impact on people’s lives. That calling led me to Atlanta in 2022 to pursue my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the illustrious Clark Atlanta University.

Becoming a therapist has allowed me to support individuals through some of their most vulnerable and transformative moments. It’s work that aligns deeply with my purpose and my passion for helping others heal, grow, and recognize their own strength.

At the same time, there has always been another part of my story. Since I was a little girl, I dreamed of becoming a model. Moving to Atlanta wasn’t just an opportunity to further my education—it was also an opportunity to finally pursue a dream I had carried with me for years. For the first time, I gave myself permission to explore that creative side of myself.

What’s beautiful is that over time, I realized these two worlds weren’t separate. Modeling and mental health both center around confidence, self-expression, identity, and being seen. Through therapy, I help people navigate healing and growth. Through modeling and content creation, I hope to show people what it looks like to embrace themselves authentically and move through the world with confidence.

Today, I am intentionally building a platform that brings those passions together. Through my Modeling × Mental Health content series, I create conversations around topics such as self-confidence, self-care, emotional wellness, seasonal depression, boundaries, and personal growth. My goal is to use both mental health advocacy and creative expression to encourage others to prioritize their well-being, embrace their individuality, and understand that healing and confidence can coexist.

My journey has taught me that we don’t have to choose between our passions. Sometimes our purpose is found at the intersection of all the things that make us who we are. For me, that intersection is service, creativity, faith, and a commitment to helping others become the best version of themselves.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a completely smooth road, but I think that’s what has made the journey so meaningful.

One of the biggest challenges was moving to Atlanta and essentially starting over. I left behind the familiarity of home, my support system, and everything I had known to pursue my master’s degree at Clark Atlanta University. While I was excited about the opportunity, there were moments when navigating a new city, graduate school, work, and everyday life felt overwhelming.

Another challenge was giving myself permission to pursue multiple passions. For a long time, I viewed my professional goals and creative dreams as separate paths. I was pursuing a career in mental health while still carrying this dream of modeling that I had held since childhood. There were moments of self-doubt where I questioned whether it was realistic to pursue both or whether I needed to choose one over the other.

I’ve also learned that growth often requires patience. Social media can make it seem like success happens overnight, but most of the meaningful opportunities I’ve experienced have come from consistency, showing up even when no one was watching, and trusting the process. Whether it was completing graduate school, growing as a therapist, or stepping into the modeling industry, none of it happened as quickly as I imagined.

What has helped me navigate those challenges is my faith, my support system, and my commitment to staying connected to my purpose. Every obstacle taught me something about resilience, confidence, and trusting my own journey. Looking back, I can honestly say the struggles helped shape the woman I am today and prepared me for the opportunities I’m stepping into now.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Professionally, I am a therapist dedicated to supporting individuals as they navigate life’s challenges, strengthen their emotional well-being, and develop healthier relationships with themselves and others. My work is rooted in creating safe spaces where people feel seen, heard, and empowered to grow.

Beyond my clinical work, I am also a model, content creator, and mental health advocate. Over the past few years, I have become increasingly passionate about exploring the connection between confidence, self-expression, and emotional wellness. What began as two separate passions—mental health and modeling—has evolved into a mission-driven platform that allows me to combine both.

Through my Modeling × Mental Health content series, I create conversations around topics such as self-confidence, self-care, boundaries, emotional wellness, and personal growth. My goal is to make mental health conversations more accessible while showing people that healing and confidence are not mutually exclusive. I believe that how we see ourselves, express ourselves, and move through the world plays a significant role in our overall well-being.

What I am most proud of is having the courage to pursue both purpose and passion. Becoming a therapist was a dream fulfilled, but so was stepping into the modeling industry and allowing myself to explore a creative side that I had carried with me since childhood. Recently, I celebrated my first published modeling feature, which was a full-circle moment and a reminder that it is never too late to pursue the dreams you’ve always had.

I believe what sets me apart is my ability to bridge worlds that people don’t often see together. Many people view mental health and modeling as completely separate spaces, but I see both as opportunities to help people feel more confident, authentic, and connected to themselves. Whether I am working with clients, creating content, or stepping in front of the camera, my mission remains the same: to inspire growth, encourage self-acceptance, and remind people that they are worthy of being seen.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
If I had to choose one quality that has contributed most to my success, it would be perseverance.

There have been many moments throughout my journey where things didn’t happen as quickly as I hoped or as easily as I imagined. Whether it was moving to a new city, navigating graduate school, building my career in mental health, or pursuing modeling later in life, I’ve learned that growth often requires patience and consistency.

I’ve never been someone who achieved everything overnight. Instead, I’ve learned the value of continuing to show up, even when progress feels slow. Some opportunities came after months or even years of preparation, growth, and faith. Looking back, I’m grateful for that because it taught me to trust the process rather than rush the outcome.

I also believe perseverance is closely tied to faith. My faith has always reminded me that purpose isn’t determined by timing. One of my mother’s favorite scriptures is Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” As I’ve navigated my own journey, that scripture has slowly become one of my favorites as well. It has served as a reminder that even when I couldn’t see the bigger picture, there was still purpose in the process and growth in every season.

There were moments when I questioned myself, doubted my abilities, or wondered if I was on the right path, but continuing to move forward despite those feelings has been one of the greatest lessons of my life.

Whether in therapy, modeling, or content creation, I try to approach every opportunity with the mindset that growth is a journey. Success isn’t always about being the most talented person in the room—sometimes it’s about having the courage and commitment to keep going when things get difficult.

That perseverance has allowed me to pursue both my purpose and my passions, and it continues to guide me as I step into new opportunities.
