Today we’d like to introduce you to Keysean Amison.
Hi Keysean, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Sandusky, Ohio. I began playing football when I was eight years old for a traveling team out of Amherst, Ohio. I graduated from Perkins High School in 2017, where I continued to play football and wrestled. I obtained multiple all-conference awards in football while placing twice at state wrestling. I went on to enroll at Ashland University for a year, then transferred to Trine University in Angola, Indiana. The first year at Trine was frustrating in a way because I was not playing as much as I wanted. I felt that every young person endures this at some point in their career, so I kept my head up and continued to work hard. I went on to be 3x 1st team All-MIAA, 1st team All-Region, 1st Team AFCA All-American, 2nd Team AP All- American and 3rd team D3 All-American. I was a Cliff Harris nominee and a finalist for the best small college defensive football player in the nation. I also was elected team captain for the 2021 and 2022 seasons. I graduated from Trine University with my bachelor’s in Information Technology in December 2021. I went on to obtain my master’s in Information Studies in May 2023. I moved to Stockbridge, Georgia in January 2023. Since then, I have been training with Coach Reggie Ball at Effect Fitness, looking for an opportunity to extend my football career.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
During my year at Ashland University, I redshirted for the season. Redshirt means that you do not play that season and save your eligibility. However, the redshirting process is not for everyone. During that year, you are still acquired to practice, have early morning workouts, attend classes, and work out more than those not redshirting. It is a time that tests your mental toughness, and it tested mine. I went two years without registering any playing time in a game. I did not know if I still wanted to play the game of football, but I remembered my dreams as a kid and that was to play in the NFL. I decided I was not going to let that rough patch deter me from my path. I went on to Trine University, where I thought I was going to have a big role the following year. I played special teams which was not my thought process going in. Once again, I was faced with adversity, but I kept striving because I knew I was a great player; I just needed the opportunity to showcase it.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I workout and train at Effect Fitness while working as an optimization analyst for Navigate 360. I have been working with the company since January 2022. I believe what sets me apart from others is my mental toughness and focus. I attended school for my masters, worked a job, and played my last season of college football all at the same time. I could have given up one area to lessen the load on myself, but I know nothing in life worth having comes easy. I am looking towards both aspects of life; whether that be on the field or off the field, I will be successful.
