Today we’d like to introduce you to Layshawn Williams.
Hi Layshawn, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Funny story ! In 2016 I came to visit a friend to help her move. Unfortunately I missed my flight to go home so I decided to stay. I noticed everybody on social media was doing hair at the time & I’ve always done my own hair. Being from New York we looked over qualified on paper and moved a little faster no shade lol so I decided to go back get my license and come back to Georgia. So here I am six moves and 10 years later. Oh, and if you’re wondering where the name came from, it stands for Slowly Loving Learning About Yourself. I came up with it one of my 13 hr trips back to Atlanta #iamsllay
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Show me a road with smooth pavement and I’d love to walk it lol but they say God give his hardest battles to the strongest one, and I believe I’m one of them! Being from another state and moving to another state with no support or family has been very challenging, but as I continue to grow I walk by faith and not by sight .
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m A Licensed Cosmetologist I do it all !
I specialize in Natural HEALTHY hair! Men, women and kids. I love to color as well! I would say I’m most known for my speed nobody wants a slow stylist, but also being able to teach and educate the client on hair care while doing so. I’m most proud of myself for being consistent, not giving up and always trying to find a way to be better. I’m also grateful for my clients and social media supporters . What set me apart from everybody else is my unique personality it’s a vibe when you get SLLAYED.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Over the next 5-10 years I’m hoping to have my own salon or suites, hair care products and more.
I look forward to being a commercial model along with other opportunities, while utilizing my hair skills. Also find other clients in the entertainment industry to help build my portfolio and which would allow me to be more creative with my talent.
