Conversations with Lucas Ellison

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucas Ellison.

Lucas, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up in Santa Monica, where I got my start editing videos. That eventually led me to directing music videos, and from there I made the move to Georgia to begin my first year at SCAD, where I’m pursuing my film degree.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. Breaking into the industry as a first-time director is tough building connections and getting your foot in the door doesn’t happen easily. But I’m grateful I had the support of friends, family, and a mentor who introduced me to new ideas and opened doors to people in my city

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in directing music videos, working with artists across Atlanta and Los Angeles. What I’m most proud of is a video I directed for Sniper2004 called ‘Fanns’that project really represents what I’m about as a director. What sets me apart is the combination of my editing background and my focus on storytelling. A lot of directors hand off the edit, but because I’ve been editing since the beginning, I understand how a video comes together from every angle and I use that to bring a deeper narrative to every project I take on.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love most about Atlanta is the food, the culture, and the sense of community. Every neighborhood has its own flavor and identity, and I find that really inspiring it actually influences the work I make. As for what I like least, I’d say the traffic, but that’s a small price to pay for everything the city has to offer.
