Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus Woods.
Hi Marcus, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I started my acting career in church plays. Then, it move to more urban stage plays, and eventually, more professional work in theatre and film. I started in film with student and short film, which led to being in features. I have been blessed to work with local, national, and international creatives. Some credits, just to name a few, are “My Brother Marvin” (stage play; performed at the Fisher Theatre in Detroit, MI); Empire (season 6, episode 3; on FOX); “Night of the Living Dead” (stage play; performed at the Windsor Theatre in Canada); “Brothers” (short film; accepted in a film festival in Cannes, France); and “Booked” (short film written by Shawntay Dalon; www.bookedfilm.com). There are a few feature films that are on Tubi and Amazon Prime that are available to watch. I am excited to grow and expand in my career as an actor.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been smooth, especially with COVID hitting the scene. Some of the struggles, prior to COVID, were staying inspired and hopeful because you want to land every audition, every leading role. You want your characters, that you portray to be memorable in the audience’s mind. However, I started to learn that everything is not for me. What God has for me is (literally) for me! Now, I am on a journey to be the best, passionate, patient, and prepared me.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Outside of my acting career, I’m also a musician, playing the organ/piano. I am a personal trainer and motivational speaker. I am most proud of being a good listener. Not only because it strengthens my skill as an actor, but it assists me to help others get through their challenges. You have to listen to respond properly. What sets me apart is that I come prepared, but leave room to be creative in acting. I work consciously at being genuine in everything that I do.
How do you define success?
Well, success doesn’t have an endpoint. It’s a journey that we should always be on. Praying, learning, growing and loving through. If I can be in a consistent state of helping people better themselves mentally, physically, spiritually and financially… I’d call that “success”.
