Today we’d like to introduce you to Nyree Watkins.
Hi Nyree, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am vulnerable and personal in everything I do.
I started writing my book when I was serving in the military in 2019. I truly believe that the struggles I faced in life made me who I am today. Even though I was born a crack baby, I didn’t let that struggle beat me up but instead I used that struggle to my advantage and now I am ready to tell the world who I am. Through the good, the bad, and the ugly I have a book, a documentary, and music to support my story!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road for me and still isn’t. I struggled with my temper as a kid and young adult. I struggled with having no parents to support me in the most toughest times as a teenager. I struggled with anxiety because of the birth defects from being born a crack baby and sometimes struggle with my anxiety today. I struggled as a single mother with four children. I can go on and on with my struggles but this is just some.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am the author to my first book “Crack baby” I specialize in being transparent by meeting people where they are and giving them hope by sharing my truth.
I am an inspirational speaker for young man and women.
I am a vocalist and writer that has three songs supporting my story.
I am most proud of my accomplishments from being a veteran, an author, a vocalist, and a speaker.
What sets me apart from others is my vulnerability and authenticity.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I am a risk taker. The first time I took a big risk was when I joined the military with three babies. The risk of me leaving my babies for six months to serve my country was a big deal. The second time I took a big risk was in the pandemic when I chose to get on the airplane with my one year old and four year old to look for houses in McDonough, Georgia. The third risk was buying my house while serving in the military and than leaving the military to serve my purpose and my children. Now I am taking another risk by using my vulnerability and sharing my story with the world.
