Today we’d like to introduce you to Racquel Williams.
Hi Racquel, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a 23 years old entrepreneur, I am a nail tech based in Atlanta. My Instagram is @Nailsbykittyx. I started doing nails about two years ago and I’d say it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I’ve work with some of my favorite artists such as – Summer Walker, Karlae, young baby Tate, Bk the Rula, Cuban the savage, Kali & even one of my favorite influencers – Dearra Taylor. When I first started, I didn’t think I would get so popular so quickly, within my first year of doing nails, I was already working with my favorite people! It was mind-blowing.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When I first started, I didn’t get a lot of support from my peers, they kind of ignored me until I started working with certain people which is kind of funny. I got a lot of recognition on Instagram after doing Dearra’s nails it went viral on every social media platform! People were going crazy! I am booked and busy every single month! The attention did bring a lot of weird energy/hate from peers and strangers! People were commenting the meanest things under my pictures and sending me mean Dms. At one point, I was booked that I was overworked & overwhelmed I had to reschedule a few people and they did not take it well & that’s the one thing I dislike about being in the service industry, people seem to forget your a person also & not a robot, and even though I might’ve inconvenienced them, I still try my best to make up for it and sometimes I won’t get the best response which sucks at times.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in acrylic nails, manicures and Gel -X. I love doing different styles, nail styles you don’t normally see and I think that’s how I got popular. I started doing kawaii style nails which is a super cute nail trend that started in Japan using larger charms and cute bright colors. I started using this style because I watch a lot of anime and cartoons and across kawaii nails on Pinterest and just couldn’t help myself. I had to have kawaiii nails on my hands and that also helped me get ALOT of clientele from being out in public with huge charms on my nails people would always ask me “who did your Nails I love them !” And id be like “me!”.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
I believed in myself from the very beginning and that faith took me so far! Once you realize You are the creator of your own reality You are unstoppable. I ignored the hate I was receiving and focused of the love I had for myself and my creations, I focused on the positive & everything negative didn’t matter anymore. Staying focused on your goals as a young woman is very important, there are a lot of distractions out here but you have to stay focused, you have realized what’s best for you and stick to it and don’t let anything get in your way, not even yourself.
