Today we’d like to introduce you to Saba Jawad.
Hi Saba, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When you think of an Honors graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Biology and a graduate degree in Pharmaceutical Regulatory Affairs, your mind might instantly picture stark laboratories, research facilities, and towering stacks of compliance manuals. However, the modern application of a rigorous scientific education often leads to far more dynamic destinations. For me, this robust academic foundation became the ultimate blueprint for a thriving, multifaceted career at the intersection of medical aesthetics, luxury bridal artistry, and motherhood.
My journey began with a deep-seated fascination for the fundamental truths of life and how systems interact on a cellular level. Earning an Honors degree in Biology required an intense level of dedication, providing me with a comprehensive understanding of the human body’s inner workings. I didn’t stop there. By pursuing a graduate degree in Regulatory Affairs, I mastered the complex bridge between scientific innovation and public safety. This specialized education trained me to be analytical, highly detail-oriented, and uncompromising on product safety, clinical trials, and compliance protocols.
Rather than confining my expertise to a traditional laboratory, I took my scientific foundation and made a fascinating pivot driven by pure passion. I founded my own business, Color Impressions by Saba, and has spent over a decade establishing myself as a premier luxury makeup and hair artist in the Atlanta region.
While I deeply love catering to South Asian brides, I’m incredibly passionate about working with brides of all backgrounds and nationalities. For me, the high-stakes, emotional environment of bridal work is fueled by human connection. I stand by my clients during their most intimate and nervous moments before walking down the aisle. By the end of the process, what starts as a professional service often blossoms into a long-lasting friendship that feels like family. Behind the scenes, my scientific background provides a quiet edge—allowing me to intuitively understand the chemistry of cosmetics, intricate skin preparation, and molecular longevity—to deliver a truly premium experience.
More recently, I brought my scientific background full circle by stepping into the management of Eclat Medical Aesthetics, a premier medical spa in Alpharetta. The synergy between my academic roots and my artistic vision has been seamless.
In an industry that demands constant education, I thrive on the challenge of learning about the latest, most innovative treatments, from advanced skin therapies to injectables. Because I have a foot in both the clinical and creative worlds, I act as a trusted guide for my clients and friends, helping them achieve their aesthetic goals to look and feel their absolute best. For me, beauty is a full-circle approach that starts beneath the skin with safe, clinically proven treatments and finishes with the flawless touch of a makeup brush.
Between managing a bustling medical spa and running a successful luxury artistry business, my schedule is undeniably demanding. Yet, I try navigate this bustling life while raising three beautiful boys—a role I finds to be the most rewarding of all.
My kids keep me grounded and serve as a massive source of daily motivation. Balancing entrepreneurship, clinic operations, and motherhood is a constant juggle, but bringing that vibrant energy and joy back home makes every professional challenge worth it.
My trajectory serves as a powerful reminder not to limit the application of one’s talents. By merging the critical thinking of a scientist with the creative eye of an artist, I have proven that a unique, unconventional background can seamlessly transform into your greatest professional asset.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Building client trust from scratch is one of the most grueling rites of passage for any professional starting out. It is a period defined by high friction, immense effort, and minimal immediate reward, often requiring you to manufacture your own momentum just to get a foot in the door.
The most immediate hurdle is the classic paradox: clients want to see a proven track record before they hire you, but you need clients to build that track record.
The “Free Work” Trap: To bridge this gap, beginners often resort to volunteering or offering free services. While necessary for gathering testimonials and client photos, it is financially and emotionally draining.
Doing free work can sometimes reinforce a nagging feeling of being undervalued, making it a struggle to eventually transition to charging what your time and skills are actually worth.
Getting your foot in the door is rarely about one lucky break; it is about outlasting the initial wall of rejection.
The beginning stages require a disproportionate amount of hard work. You are spending hours working, marketing, and refining your craft, often hearing “no” (or nothing at all) in return.
The true struggle is maintaining a consistent effort when the validation of paying clients isn’t there yet. It requires deep, self-sustaining discipline to keep showing up.
Establishing a unique space in any industry is rarely a solo endeavor. Without an existing brand reputation, your personal network becomes your primary currency.
In the beginning, friends, family, and former colleagues are often your first “clients” or your primary source of referrals. It can feel vulnerable to constantly ask your network for favors, introductions, or chances to prove yourself.
It takes time to find the right mentors and peers who will champion your work. A strong network doesn’t just hand you jobs; they help you identify your unique strengths, vouch for your character and help you carve out your distinct space in a crowded market.
Starting out is a battle of attrition. It is a messy, exhausting phase of giving away your value for free, relying heavily on the goodwill of your network, and pushing through a wall of skepticism. However, this exact struggle is what ultimately forces you to refine your skills, build genuine relationships, and forge the unshakeable foundation of trust that a lasting career is built upon.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Drawing on over a decade of experience in the luxury bridal space, I offer a distinct advantage by seamlessly mastering both luxury hair and makeup artistry to ensure a perfectly cohesive vision from the first brushstroke to the final hairpin.
My styling repertoire is highly versatile, allowing me to craft meticulously intricate braided hairstyles just as flawlessly as clean, modern updos tailored to each client. This comprehensive approach is further elevated by a specialized, niche expertise in hijab and dupatta draping, blending cultural authenticity with high-end, editorial elegance.
My true creative strength lies in curating a timeless, traditional aesthetic centered on a radiant, soft glow—an approach designed to enhance natural beauty rather than conceal it. By harmonizing flawless makeup, exquisite hair design, and masterful draping, I create a unified look that honors tradition while ensuring every bride feels breathtakingly beautiful, and entirely, authentically like herself.”
What do you like and dislike about the city?
The lifestyle in Atlanta is hard to beat, starting with the fantastic weather that perfectly complements an active, outdoor-loving spirit. It is a true playground for a foodie, with a constantly evolving culinary scene and a seemingly endless abundance of new restaurants to explore. When you need a break from the dining scene, the access to nature is phenomenal—whether it is exploring local parks, discovering nearby waterfalls, or hitting the hiking trails. Geographically, it serves as an ideal home base, offering unbeatable proximity for spontaneous road trips and weekend getaways to Tennessee, the Carolinas, and the Florida coast.
However, the city’s infrastructure creates a stark contrast to those lifestyle perks. The daily reality is dominated by an obscene amount of traffic, which is heavily exacerbated by a severe lack of reliable public transportation. What should be an easy commute downtown or a straightforward drive to the airport for travel has evolved into a highly stressful, time-consuming endeavor, making the sheer logistics of navigating the city the biggest drawback to calling it home.
