Conversations with Samah Mereani

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samah Mereani.

Hi Samah, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my passion for fashion when I was a little kid I use to sew dresses for my dollar from old clothes of mine. And when I was 19 years old I started to work as a fashion designer for a brand called one ummah, also, I worked for another local designer Hatem Al-Akeel. Fashion grew in me a lot after I graduate from University in 2012 I started my blog I use to write about fashion & trends.

I started studying styling to help me with my designs and I fell in love with it. I started to read more and suddenly, I found myself more as a stylist. I used to give free consultations to my followers on Instagram and Snapchat. In 2018 I started it as a real business and I opened Fashionvox fashion studio. In 2020 I started in the editorial styling world and creative directing. Now I work as a creative director and personal and editorial fashion stylist. I’m planning to have my fashion brand soon and be prepared for it.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It’s not smooth, to be honest in Saudi Arabia it’s a new thing to be a fashion stylist and creative director. In the beginning, a lot of people around me brought me down and they didn’t see any future for my work especially since I use to do everything for free and not get paid. But now we are in a different era and my work become recognizable and understood. I’m really glad that I kept going through all this.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I work now as an editorial & personal fashion stylist & creative director. Sometimes I also become the art director for some of my projects. I’m known for my style so simple yet unique. I’m proud of myself for not being stoppable and I made the right decision for following my heart and quit my formal job to do fashion full-time. I’m not here to compete with anyone I’m here to compete with myself to be better and more unique.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Don’t listen to anyone just follow your heart and if you start to dream about it while you are sleeping will come true.

I wish I started earlier that’s it but I think this is my time.
