Conversations with SoCandy

Today we’d like to introduce you to SoCandy.

Hi SoCandy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started off a performer really young. I was a gymnast. Won a bunch of state titles and ending up getting a bad “mental block”. I was afraid to do a bunch of the required skills. Gymnastics is extremely expensive and my family was not well off so I decided to quit. I started cheerleading. Tried out for my middle school and didn’t make the team but when I tried out for high school cheer, I made varsity as a freshman. Went on to cheer for University of South Alabama and then cheer for the Houston Texans. That was the start of my performance career, I guess.

After the Texans, I decided to take one of my biggest dreams serious… Music.

I started networking with different people in the industry and eventually found myself moving to Dallas, Texas to work with a well known producer. Ended up getting scammed out of a lot of money and moved to Atlanta.

Started making a name and performing with different groups. Ending up meeting Trap Beckham and he introduced me to TJ Chapman and we dropped my biggest song, “Taste Like Candy”. We then went on to release a song with Fatman Scoop called, “Get Low”.

Currently, I am still promoting music with a new single to drop, June 5th called “Over the Top”. I’m traveling the world introducing the world to SoCandy.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all. Honestly, I feel like a lot of people would of quit if they went through what I have.

I’ve had financial struggles, relationship issues, FAMILY issues. My mom literally passed away before she could hear my biggest song, “Taste Like Candy”.

Having a relationship with a big star is also difficult. The time apart, the time together. Honestly, there’s more pros than cons so this is not really a struggle.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a Rap/R and B artist.

I’m most known for my songs, “Taste Like Candy” and “Get Low”. I have a strong social media presence (@realsocandy). I’m most proud the progress that I’ve been able to make over the years.

I think earlier in my career I had a lot people who may have doubted me. Right now I can really feel that support that I’m getting. I can see people really want to see me win and that’s like full circle for me.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love how much there is to do here. Every single night of the week you can get into something. I love how you come here and become a star. I think Atlanta is a place people come to for opportunities and succeed.
