Today we’d like to introduce you to Talara Soca.
Hi Talara, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been a creative person at heart. I studied Apparel, Textiles and Merchandising with a concentration in Design, and over the years my career naturally evolved into working within luxury retail, beauty and client relations. I’ve worked with brands like COTY and currently serve as the Market Specialist Executive for Ole Henriksen, where I’ve developed a strong passion for connecting with people, storytelling and helping clients feel confident.
At the same time, I’ve always had bigger creative dreams beyond traditional retail. My long-term vision has been to build a sustainable fashion brand inspired by femininity, culture and intentional living, with influences from Uruguay as well as African American and Latin American artistic communities. A lot of my inspiration comes from wanting women to feel beautiful while also being mindful about wellness, comfort and sustainability.
My journey hasn’t been completely linear. There were seasons where I had to rebuild, refocus and rediscover what I truly wanted for myself creatively and professionally. Recently, I also earned my real estate license, which opened another unexpected creative path for me by combining design, aesthetics, lifestyle and connection with people in a new way.
Right now, I feel like I’m entering a season where all the different parts of my story are finally coming together — fashion, beauty, creativity, culture, wellness and entrepreneurship — and I’m excited to continue building something meaningful from all of those experiences.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, no, no, nooo! Lol it definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. I think one of the biggest challenges has been learning how to keep believing in myself during seasons where life didn’t go the way I originally planned. There were moments where I questioned my direction creatively and professionally, especially when certain goals took longer to accomplish than I expected.
For a long time, I struggled with feeling like I had to choose between stability and creativity. Working in luxury retail and beauty taught me so much, but I also knew I had bigger dreams that I still wanted to pursue for myself. Learning how to honor both the practical and creative sides of who I am has been a journey.
I’ve also experienced personal transitions that forced me to rebuild parts of my life and rediscover my confidence. Looking back now, I think those experiences gave me a deeper sense of resilience and clarity about the kind of life I want to create.
One moment that really stands out to me was returning to pursue my real estate license after originally giving up on it years ago. That experience reminded me that sometimes growth is about having the courage to start again and finish what you once walked away from.
Overall, every challenge has shaped me into someone more intentional, grounded and determined, both personally and professionally.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
What sets me apart is my foundation in faith, identity, and the way I show up in every space I enter.
My faith in God is the center of my life. I was raised by both of my parents with a strong understanding that nothing in life happens without purpose, and that keeping God at the center of what you do changes the way things unfold. That belief has shaped how I work, how I build relationships, and how I navigate both opportunities and challenges.
I’m also very proud of my identity and where I come from. I was born and raised in Mississippi, and I carry that grounding with me everywhere I go. With a Black and Latin heritage, I grew up with a deep appreciation for culture, resilience, and the importance of knowing who you are.
Another thing that sets me apart is my name. My name is deeply meaningful to me and reflects my personality and identity in a very real way. In Latin culture, names carry history, intention, and pride, and I’ve always embraced that. It reminds me to stand confidently in who I am and to honor the uniqueness I bring into every room.
For me, success is not just about what I do — it’s about how I show up: grounded, intentional, and fully aligned with who I am.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I would say I’m naturally more cautious than I am a big risk-taker. I tend to weigh my options, think things through, and make decisions very intentionally rather than impulsively. I’ve always been someone who values stability and clarity before making a move.
The one area where I would say I do lean into risk is love. [my smile widens a little as I answer this] I’ve always been someone who genuinely believes in love and connection, and I think when it comes to matters of the heart, I can be more willing to take emotional risks than I am in other areas of life.
For me, it’s less about being a risk-taker in a general sense and more about recognizing the few areas where I’m willing to step outside of my comfort zone — and love is definitely one of them. It’s the one space where emotion can outweigh logic, even if just for a moment.
