Conversations with Terrell Wade aka The Wade Empire

Today we’d like to introduce you to Terrell Wade aka The Wade Empire.

Hi The Wade Empire, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
About four years after receiving my Bachelor’s in Media & Information at Michigan State University in 2013, I finally decided to follow my dream of leaving my mark on social media under the name The Wade Empire. Before then, I had started a few times but procrastinated and never kept up with it. Until one day, I decided to just stick with it. I started with memes on Twitter and Instagram to get my creative juices flowing. Then I moved on to more skits and funny videos involving various topics. Eventually, I was able to figure out what type of videos worked well that people enjoyed, so I stuck with it!

Over the past few years, I’ve been focusing on growing my brand and getting as many eyes on my social media pages as possible. So I usually stick with relatable yet funny posts. Since the start of my career, I was featured on the show “The Feed at Night” as well as “Right This Minute” & re-posted on plenty high profile accounts such as WorldStar & BET. I’ve even had the pleasure of doing a few brand partnerships with various companies such as Mountain Dew, Kahula, Twisted Tea, and Cisco.

As of right now, I currently have over 400k followers on TikTok and over 150k followers on Instagram. Every day that number grows lets me know that I’m doing something right and keeping going. Hopefully, in the future, my content creation skills can lead me into acting and creative writing for bigger entities!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all. The biggest struggle was staying motivated and focused. Especially when I post something and it doesn’t perform in the way, I think it should. It can get discouraging at first, but eventually, I learned that it’s best to just put out the best content you can and do not worry about the stats.

To piggyback off that, another struggle was figuring out how/what to post that would captivate and entertain audiences. Trying to post about trending topics while trying to hold someone’s attention while putting my own personality into it is easier said than done. However, it is key in this influencer business if you want to grow. Things move fast on social media, so I never wanted to get left behind.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
To me, what sets me apart from others is that I am more of a well-rounded individual than most. I’m very down-to-earth and cordial with everyone. I’ve worked in “Corporate America” for almost a decade from banking to insurance, so I’ve encountered and interacted with every “type” of person. I try to utilize that experience into my content, which has been extremely successful to me. Most people know me from my work-related comedy posts, which sometimes are actually rooted in real-life experiences.

Right now, going forward, my main focus is being a content creator/influencer. Although that isn’t my full-time job yet, I am working on leaving the 9-5 lifestyle soon so that I can be that full-fledged creator.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
I learned that during hard times sometimes people really need an outlet to “get away” from their daily life and struggles. Covid was no exception to that. I also learned how to adapt quickly. I realized that things in our world can change so fast and we have to keep up and stay on top of things to avoid being left out. Life is short; you could be here today and gone tomorrow, so don’t take anything for granted. Do want makes you happy and try to live with no regrets.
