Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Sorenson.
Hi Victoria, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my author journey working at a local dress boutique. My husband and parents watched our three girls while I was saving up for my first book cover from my dream cover designer. It took me six months to earn enough to afford my debut novel’s gorgeous cover art, and to this day I’m still proud of myself for making it happen myself. I then spent over two years building connections and making friends in the creative community online. I attend book signings, book themed balls, and events. I also signed with my literary agent in April and I’m excited to try my hand at traditional publishing. I am currently working on finishing book three in my YA fantasy series, The Tendrils of Light. Books one and two, The Sacred Vine & The Soul Shield, are available now for purchase on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and all other major online retailers. I also sell signed copies from my website!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There are days readers love your writing, and then there are days you come across a negative review and the reader did not connect with your work. You have to have thick skin if you want to see any sort of success in this industry. You have to be willing to let others criticize your writing so that you can grow and develop your skillset. You will see a lot of rejection, and how you view it is everything. I choose to view rejection as a door simply closed. Other doors will open, and sometimes it’s not a door at all, but a window. My advice is to climb out the window, and see if there’s a ladder waiting for you that you can climb down and move on to the next obstacle. Otherwise, you’re stuck in the same room.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I write fantasy novels. I’m known for introspective and poetic storytelling. I am most proud of my tenacity and my stubbornness. Without the two, my books would not exist. What sets me apart from others… I would say my creativity. I love writing innovative magic systems and connecting the dots.
What does success mean to you?
Success is a feeling, not an action. I CHOOSE to feel successful. I decide to see the value in my decisions and day to day life. I refuse to wait for approval from others or for a specific life event to occur to define my success. I became a happier person when I realized that I am in control of how I define my wins.
