Daily Inspiration: Meet Aysia Sylvia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aysia Sylvia.

Hi Aysia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always had a love for beauty and makeup that went beyond the average teenage girl’s interest. My mom used to go all out for my Halloween costume and dance recital makeup and that’s definitely where the interest sparked. I used to use a Bobby pin and dip it in mascara to use it as liquid eyeliner when I was in middle school because I didn’t have a full makeup kit! So the passion was definitely always there. I didn’t start taking makeup seriously as more than just a hobby until my junior year of college. It took me months to muster the courage to go apply at the MAC counter in my college town because I was so nervous! When I got the call that I got the job I was SO excited!! MAC had been such a dream of mine since I was 15 getting my homecoming makeup done by the MAC Girls. I thought they were so beautiful and cool and I couldn’t believe I got to be one of them! That little 20 hr a week college job really was the catalyst to my career combined with a lot (and I mean a lot) of early mornings, free work, and practice. I left that job when I graduated college and started building my name around town for bridal makeup and the rest is history!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely wasn’t EASY by any means, I mean anyone who knows someone who works in the beauty industry knows that we work our butts off. I was working an 8-5 m-f job (which was MISERABLE), and going to real estate school at night and working weddings on the weekends. And then I even went on to go get my esthetics license. I was exhausted and had no self-control when it came to enforcing a work/life balance but I would do it all over again 100 times because it got me to where I am now

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a professional makeup artist that specializes in bridal makeup. I guess you could say I’m most known for soft glam with neutral colors. Smokey eyes, nude lips, etc. I really enjoy forming an actual relationship with my brides, not just because it makes the experience more enjoyable and fun, but also because it helps me understand what she needs from me before she even has to ask. Wedding mornings are stressful, and whatever I can do (outside of making her look beautiful) to feel at ease on the wedding day, I’m gonna do it.

Any big plans?
Well, it’s actually my turn to be the bride! I recently got engaged so I’m looking forward to getting an entirely new perspective of planning a wedding, talking with vendors, etc.

  • $300 – Bride (includes a trial)
