Daily Inspiration: Meet Azael Bueno

Today we’d like to introduce you to Azael Bueno.

Hi Azael, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I first discovered my love for film while living in New York City. One day, I accidentally stumbled onto a large film set without realizing where I was. Curious, I asked someone what was happening. They told me they were shooting a movie starring a well-known actor.

A few days later, I began doing some research. The first thing that struck me was the sheer scale of filmmaking-how could it take so many people to create a single movie? One night, after finish watching a film, I decided to read through all the credits. Piece by piece, I began to understand. I’d been watching movies my entire life, yet I’d never truly appreciated the immense amount of work that goes into making them.

That curiosity quickly turned into fascination. I spent my entire paycheck on my first camera, and before long, I was hooked. I spent hours wandering the streets of New York, taking photos and learning everything I could about how my camera worked. Inspiration was everywhere in the city. Alive with art, energy, and stories.

I started watching obscure films and devouring countless YouTube videos about filmmaking. I made a list of movies I’d never heard of and watched every single one, writing down how each one made me feel and what I thought of it.

Eventually, I decided to make my first short film. I wrote a story inspired by my own family experiences and cast my mom and sister as the leads. We shot it right in my apartment, with help from a few friends I’d met while working as a production assistant. The final result wasn’t perfect, but that didn’t matter. From that moment on, I knew this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

Over the next eight years, I worked regular jobs, saving money to make more short films. Each project taught me something new. That cycle of saving, writing, filming, and learning became my life.

This year, I officially launched my production company, AZEMEDIA.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was definitely not an easy path. Telling people you are an artist is never easy. Thankfully, my mother has been very supportive and recognize that this was not just a phase. Initially, turning down the traditional school path felt daunting and scary. Everything I was studying at the time seemed like the easy route toward a comfortable and stable job, but I knew my passion didn’t lie there. It was never about making money or owning material things. The only thing that could truly fulfill me was the work itself.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a filmmaker and the owner of AZEMEDIA, where we offer a variety of video production services. More than anything we specialize in creating content that highlight small businesses. I work hand-in-hand with clients to achieve the best possible results.

I’m most proud of my latest short film, “Ditch,” which I shot last year with some friends and has been shown to some local festivals in Georgia. You can watch it here: https://youtu.be/kj-V_GBXMPo?si=Ly6u0KMcfsEG55mT

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Patience. Everything takes time & some lessons take longer to learn than others.
