Daily Inspiration: Meet Billie Tillman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Billie Tillman.

Hi Billie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started singing at the age of 15 in Miami with a group of my friends. Initially, we started out as N2Deep. Myself and Alvin Ancrum. Later we added members Gregory Darden(deceased), Marques Hunt and Donnie Jackson and later for Sol. The name was changed to Grown Man Status in 2013 and has been that since. We recently lost one of our members and other members have gone on to embark on other ventures, so I decided to try my hand at a solo career.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been easy. At different times when we’ve tried to come together to work, each member would have personal matters that interfered with our growth and success. As I mentioned earlier, Greg Big Gregg Darden passed away in August of 2021 and other members have moved to different states. I’ve had more success as a solo artist.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’ve been singing RnB music well over 30 years now, first getting my start in church and local talent shows in the Miami area. What sets me apart from others is that I do my own writing, mixing, and mastering and of course, all the singing. I also do my own production work. Currently, I have three singles out on my album the B TILLMAN PROJECT. Give You The Love ft Urban Mystic, Make Time ft. Wingo of Jagged Edge and My Side of Town. My sound sets me apart from the rest. I bring raw vocals and straight-edged singing that we miss in the industry.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the culture. The black mecca that Atlanta is. Not much I don’t like about the city. It’s been good to me since I’ve been here.
