Today we’d like to introduce you to Cori Williams.
Hi Cori, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve always done hair and makeup. I was self taught growing up because as a little girl that was just one of my interests. I also went through a phase of extreme low self esteem which also pushed and motivated me to learn how to do hair and makeup in order to help boost my self esteem. I have 3 big sisters and I would style and do their hair growing up. I would even do my mother and grandmothers hair and makeup. They most definitely had a part to play in how far I’ve come today.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t think anything in life is just smooth. Every journey has its trials and tribulations. One of my main ones is the fact that I also have a nightlife. Even though one would think that that makes your journey easier monetarily it does but, when you’re trying to be looked at in a professional light it can have a negative effect on how people may view you as an individual. Even though I’m pretty sensitive, I’ve never let what anyone thought or had to say Stop me from accomplishing the things that I need and wanted to accomplish. If anything it motivated me to keep going and show them I could do both and actually surpass the standards and stereotypes that most people have of women that may dance/perform but also have other careers and talents.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a licensed master cosmetologist going on four years now. I specialize in natural hair and loc retwists. I am also a pole dancer going on four years now. In the Beauty industry, I am known for my long lasting silk presses and loc re-twists. In the entertainment industry, I am known for my enticing performance, Pole work and flexibility. I am most proud of the fact that I actually attended Aveda Institute and got my cosmetology license while dancing. What sets me apart from others is that I’m unstoppable. I am the star that never stops shining even in my darkest night. The world simply catches my light when it’s ready.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
