Today we’d like to introduce you to Elsy Aguirre.
Hi Elsy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am Venezuelan, 45 years old, and my story—the very reason I am in this country and alive today—has Almighty God as its sole protagonist.
My story is not my own; it is a testimony of God’s love. Since I was a child, I knew I wanted to be a graphic designer, but it was in college that I discovered my passion for the audiovisual field. During those years, I met my first husband. We graduated and got married, but divorced two years later. I spent the next six years alone, battling depression. During that time, I embraced New Age and metaphysical beliefs that only provided temporary relief. Eventually, I met Edgar Malave, who is my husband today. We formed a family and emigrated to the United States.
Like every immigrant, we fought every day just to have food on the table and a place to live, constantly running to pay the bills. My husband was the only one working outside the home, while I stayed back to care for my daughter because daycare was unaffordable even if I worked. I lived clinging to my beliefs of manifesting reality through vision boards, but everything went from bad to worse. I couldn’t find remote work, and when I did, it paid very little. My marriage was failing, and our finances were in ruins. We initially arrived in Miami, and everything there was terrible. Later, when we moved to Georgia, things began to improve slightly because we could finally dedicate ourselves to what we loved: photography and video. However, my marriage was still struggling. I remained deeply attached to New Age practices like Feng Shui and Tarot. Even though some areas seemed to improve outwardly, deep down, it was like a rotten root keeping a half-dead plant alive. I also clung to the fact that I had studied to be a life coach in Venezuela and tried to apply everything to my life without results. I constantly tried to break through by coaching others or relying on my graphic design background, but nothing prospered; I couldn’t generate income with anything.
Amid all of this, I felt constantly depressed, feeling like my life was slipping away just being a mom without the ability to work. Our finances were a constant challenge that stole my joy and peace. I lived an unhappy, bitter, and hopeless life. Until one day, I finally remembered that God existed. I made a prayer out of pure desperation because the unhappiness was torturing me.
After that desperate prayer, supernatural things began to happen in my home. Oil appeared on the doorframes. On February 29th, I dreamed of a tall, Black pastor who told me to raise my hands and close my eyes. I did, and within that vision, I had another vision: a dense cloud of sand was coming toward me at full speed in a desert. It hit my eyes so hard that I woke up with severe tachycardia, terrified that I was having a heart attack. Later, on March 10th, which was my sister’s birthday, I decided to stay with her and accompany her throughout the day. I went with her to an evangelical church. At the time, I was Catholic, but I didn’t care because I didn’t practice Catholicism either; I viewed religions as methods to control people, believed they were pure lies, that the Bible was written by men, and that anyone who talked about God was just an annoying fanatic. I went to that church solely to support my sister, and to my absolute surprise, the pastor of that church was the exact person from my dream. It was the same pastor, and I had never seen him before in my life.
In that moment, I realized God was real and that my dream had been because of Him. That day, while wide awake, I had other incredible visions, fell under the power of the Holy Spirit, and surrendered my life to Christ. Since that day, I experienced true joy, bliss, and the peace of being under His protection for the very first time. I found the ability to enjoy life and the power of forgiveness. I am free. God has not stopped blessing my marriage and our finances. I have beautiful, talented, and healthy daughters. Our business keeps growing, and my husband has won awards, including two Emmys. Therefore, I cannot fail to exalt God whenever someone interviews me, no matter what it is for. May the name of God be glorified.
Currently, I specialize in scriptwriting for social media content and other audiovisual projects, and I serve as a Creative Director, Producer, and CEO of Version Activa alongside my husband.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth road at all. The journey has been marked by intense trials, and without a doubt, the greatest challenge was emotional. Battling depression while carrying the weight of severe financial pressure was incredibly draining. In the beginning, we faced the daily stress of just trying to survive financially, which was compounded by the deep ache of being away from and missing my parents.
On top of that, the language barrier was a massive hurdle; dealing with English has been an incredibly difficult and frustrating battle. As immigrants, we also had to navigate the painful reality of facing people who, at times, tried to look down on us or humiliate us. To make matters even more challenging, during our first few years as newcomers to this country, we had to endure serious health crises, including illnesses and surgeries, without the stability or support system we once had.
It was a road paved with financial, physical, and emotional brokenness, but every single one of those struggles was a stepping stone that shaped my resilience and deepened my faith.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the CEO and Creative Director of Version Activa LLC, a content production company based in Atlanta, Georgia, that I run alongside my husband, Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Edgar Malave. We specialize in monthly video content for personal brands and businesses — primarily Latino professionals such as realtors, insurance agents, and coaches who want their digital presence to match the level they have already achieved in their careers.
My specific role is the one most people don’t see: I write the scripts, develop the creative strategy, coordinate the entire production workflow, and make sure every piece of content has intention behind it. I am the voice behind the words that represent our clients in front of their audience.
I am also a graphic designer by training, with a background in audiovisual production that goes back to my university years in Venezuela. That foundation shapes the way I think about content — not just what is said, but how it looks, how it sounds, and what it makes people feel.
What I am most proud of is building something real out of nothing. We arrived in this country as immigrants with very little, and through years of hard work, faith, and not giving up, Version Activa is today a growing company with a strong client base, a recognizable brand, and a husband who has won two Emmy Awards. That does not happen without a team. I am that team.
Beyond directing and content strategy, I am also a professional makeup artist specializing in photography and video creation, ensuring everyone looks flawless on camera. Additionally, I play the guitar and sing as a worship leader, dedicating my musical talents to praise.
Through our agency, we have also conducted 34 workshops on how to create content, impacting the lives of more than 400 people right here in Georgia.
What sets me apart is that I understand both sides of the creative process — the visual and the narrative. I don’t just write scripts; I think in terms of brand, strategy, and human connection. Every word I write for a client is designed to build trust, generate authority, and move their audience to act. That combination of graphic design, scriptwriting, and operational leadership in one person is rare — and it is what makes Version Activa work.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Most people who follow our work see a successful brand, a growing company, and an Emmy Award-winning filmmaker. What they don’t see is where we came from. I spent years battling depression, financial hardship, and a life that felt completely out of control. I tried everything — vision boards, manifestation, New Age practices — and nothing worked.
What changed everything was not a strategy or a mindset shift. It was a supernatural encounter with God that I did not go looking for. He found me. And everything you see today — the marriage, the business, the growth — is the result of that moment.
I don’t talk about it often in professional spaces, but my faith, my devotion as a worshiper, and my calling to serve others are the most true and most important things about me. Everything I am, and everything I do, is to honor Him
