Daily Inspiration: Meet Jacey Robinson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacey Robinson

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Jacey Robinson and I am a Capture and Video artist that does game capture, editing, and motion graphics work in the gaming space. I’ve made marketing content and video trailers for games including SMITE, Paladins, and Palia, and enjoy making animations of my own in my free time!

I grew up around the Atlanta area, and also graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta in Visual Effects. I worked as a video editor at Hi-Rez Studios for 4 years. After that, I worked as a Game Capture Artist for Singularity 6 for just over a year. As of right now, I am currently freelancing and open to remote work!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There’s been many challenges I’ve faced throughout the few years I’ve been in the industry, there are a lot times I feel like I’m still learning! I always keep an open mind to adapting my skills and remaining flexible on the creative teams I am a part of. Collaboration is a skill I really value working with other creatives. I love when others can combine their skills to make an amazing piece of work! It’s a big reason why I enjoy working in video games and film. I also believe learning how to work with other types of people and having empathy can be just as important as well! Having good synergy with a team is important because it can lead to you trusting each other when you are handing off work to another team member.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I would say most of my work comes from working in the marketing space, but I do personal animations as a way to keep myself learning new techniques and explore creatively! I believe it’s incredibly important to have personal work or hobbies to separate yourself from your professional, and have that space to let the brain recharge and feed it inspiration.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters at the end of the day to me is being able to work with creative, humble people and making videos that bring people joy. I love seeing reactions when players get excited over a new trailer that I helped capture shots for, or being able to do a map flythrough and put together visually all the game devs art work that come together in a world they build. It can be very rewarding when you make videos that positively impact people, even if it’s just a laugh looking at a silly meme video. Those positive reactions and working with other artists is what keeps me going and keeps me creating.
