Today we’d like to introduce you to Jackie Hill.
Hi Jackie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began taking private art lessons at age 8 and always liked the arts. I took lessons through high school and some classes in college. I majored in political science and speech and theatre and then went to law school at Mercer Univ. After graduation, I became a criminal prosecutor in the metro Atlanta area for ten years until I stopped to raise my two children. I was a Sr. Asst. D. A. for the Atlanta Judicial District when I resigned, but I also worked in Clayton and Douglas County as a criminal prosecutor. After my children reached ages 8 and 10, I applied to Paulding Co. Parks and Recreation where I was hired to teach art and theatre. I taught art to children and adults, ages 5-98 for ten years and also theatre for K-12,starting the Paulding Players Theatre group. I enjoyed teaching others what I loved. Later we moved to Lake Country where I taught theatre at a private school, John Milledge Academy, and also began teaching art to adults after the covid crisis which I still do today. I am currently teaching art to children in two summer camps at the Plaza Arts Center, and I enjoy being in theatre productions at the Plaza and also through the Lake Country Players Theatre in Greensboro. A few years ago I discovered that I could write songs, and I am currently working on copyrights for 16 original songs, writing both the lyrics and the melodies.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been fairly smooth, but prosecuting criminals is never easy. I have enjoyed writing plays and doing theatre immensely and haven’t suffered many obstacles in this area. Covid definitely stopped me in my tracks as well as breaking my leg in 2021. Artwork has always been therapeutic along the way.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Commissioned artwork, teaching art to all ages, pet portraits, acting and directing plays
Most proud of my diverse background and ability to tackle new things
I suppose I am set apart from others by my ability to become a “Jackie of All Trades,” (probably a master of none!)
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I am fearful that the AI which is upon us will cause people to become less creative and weaken our creative instincts. It’s also depressing to find that after working hard on songwriting or artwork, others are fooled by something done by AI. thinking it is real. There’s no substitute for human creativity done on the kitchen table.
