Daily Inspiration: Meet Janetlys Rodriguez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janetlys Rodriguez.

Hi Janetlys, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am originally from Boston, Massachusetts, I moved to Atlanta about a year ago because I wanted to pursue acting and music there. I went through a lot of different obstacles to even get to Atlanta but I’m glad I was able to move here. I started when I was 12 years old when I auditioned for my first audition. I started off as a professional dancer and was dancing in different competitions and even had the opportunity to dance for Usher, B2K, and J.Cole. I won numerous of awards such as “Model Of The Year” at the Carolina music awards and “Petite Model Of The Year” at the Plitzs fashion competition in New York. I started off doing music and came out with my first single “Addicted”. Ever since then, I kept dropping song after song. In total, I have seven songs out! My new single, “Giving Goals” is a Bop! And it’s my top streamed song right now. I want to continue dropping songs until the right person hears me and until the right song goes viral! I am also in the Film industry as well. I see myself acting in major Tv shows and Films, and that’s definitely what I am working on right now! I went to school for acting and I’ve always had a passion for it.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In all honesty, losing my cousin to gun violence and then losing my grandma to cancer were my biggest struggles along the way. It was hard for me to cope. I also lost a lot of friends that I thought would be with me throughout my journey but I had to learn that not everyone is going to be by your side while you’re on the come up. I’ve had to deal with a lot of envious people, and it was hard for me moving to a state where I didn’t know anybody. I get homesick here and there because I do miss my family but this is definitely a big sacrifice I have to make for my dreams and what I want to pursue.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I like to consider myself as a triple threat. I am a professional Music Artist, Actress, and Dancer. I’ve been doing this since I was 12 years old so I have a lot of experience and training through my craft. At this moment, I am working on my music and working on auditions for major films and television shows. I am mostly known for my music. My new single, “Giving Goals” is definitely a song I see blowing up. A lot of people are starting to know the song so I know I want to keep pushing it but as an artist, I want to keep dropping so I can have more and more content to show! I know in my heart that the right person and that right record label will come to me. I just have to keep putting more content out! I honestly feel like Giving Goals would be that one song that blows up months from now. I feel like I’m different and my sound is different from others. I am also a Latina artist in Atlanta which is different and a lot of people wouldn’t expect that.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
For me, I know having a relationship with God has helped me a lot. Having faith and just knowing and telling myself that I’m going to be where I want to be one day. It’s really about what you say. Your mind and what you say is powerful so you always have to keep a positive mindset and always be positive overall. Praying gets me through everything. I’ve been through a lot of difficult times and changes. I even had certain phases where I wanted to give up but then I always remember where I see myself. I see myself on the biggest stages, the biggest shows, winning awards and being nominated for awards. I know where I’m going so there’s no point to stop now. I’ve never really had a mentor or someone to guide me through my career and through this industry. I’ve had to learn a lot on my own, but trusting in God has definitely helped me.
