Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Pilgrim
Hi Jasmine, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Life as an independent artist has been marked by determination and resilience. Growing up as the oldest of six brothers and one sister, I’ve always dreamed of becoming a star. Despite my anxiety, I’ve found encouragement from my parents, who, although never having attended college themselves, supported my ambitions. I pursued a Bachelor of Science at Charleston Southern University, where I also excelled in track & field. I began my career in modeling before transitioning to acting in 2019, a craft I quickly grew to love.
The breakthrough came with a role in the short film “Dinner for 7; Serving Scott Free” by Katie Webb, produced by Stephanie Greene, thanks to Robin Fletcher, whom I affectionately call my “film auntie.” This opportunity opened the door to numerous other projects. I have since collaborated with notable industry figures such as Benjamin Diamond, Shadai Smith, Felicia Rivers, and Robert L. Parker. I made my debut in 2023 with “Sneaky Links” and starred in “Kill Em With A Smile.” I’ve been given the opportunity to showcase my gift on TVOne’s “Fatal Attraction” and “For My Man,” and I’ve gained valuable experience working in the background for directors like Dale S. Lewis, Tyler Perry, and Will Packer.
Today, I continue to pursue my passion for acting while exploring behind-the-scenes roles, always striving for greatness and relying on my faith in God to guide my journey. Keep an eye out for me as I continue to make my mark in the industry.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’ve had my share of challenges: anxiety, finances, and social media.
Anxiety remains a challenge for me. The pressure of being vulnerable and sharing my gift with the world was and still is nerve-wracking. I’ve always thought, “What if they don’t like it?” I experienced panic attacks and went days without eating. The only solution is prayer. I literally ask God to help me get through this. For the longest, I was in denial, but now I’ve accepted it and am trusting God to help me keep my faith and perform in His name.
Finances are always a problem. Acting isn’t cheap. People don’t understand that there is a “business” side to it. You have to network and invest in audition prep, wardrobe, shoes, hair, headshots, reels, classes, etc. It’s not a one-time package or guide you can purchase. You literally have to nurture it like a baby. You have to practice like in anything else. It’s an ongoing learning career.
Then on top of that, you have to make people like you. You can’t stand in the background (no pun intended) or you’ll fade away. We literally have to work every room because you never know who may catch your vibe and want to hire you or know someone who works for Marvel. It’s work. That online presence is something people take seriously. I have a personality but I have to prove to people that I have a personality. Like?? Hey, but that’s the world we live in. They’ll catch on. Eventually. Ahaha.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Thank you for asking! I’m a child of God, and I’m His superstar—people know me as such. I’ve also spent half my life running track, and now I’m in movies. My proudest moments include talking a man out of taking his own life, graduating from college, and receiving my first acting award. I’ve faced challenges too, like the time I lived in my car, but I kept my faith and eventually moved into my apartment with absolutely nothing! Those are moments I will never forget.
What sets me apart is that I am not afraid of starting over. I give credit where it’s due. I don’t gatekeep, and I treat everyone with respect. While I believe I’m humble, I’m also courageous. I may get nervous, but I’m never scared. For me, life isn’t about winning all the time—it’s about learning and teaching. I live to inspire, and that’s just who I am.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Getting to God and applying His Word to my life makes me happy. Being around my family makes me happy. Exercising and achieving goals make me happy.
None of them include money. Ahaha, I just enjoy the moment.
