Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Hoard.
Hi Jason , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began playing bluegrass music at age 10. My dad brought home and Mandolin and would take me around to music festivals to jam with other bands in the parking lot and campgrounds. So I would watch other players and learn what they were doing. Then at age 10, he decided I was good enough to play in our family band. Hey 13 I got asked to play in the Bible conference and my dad came to watch me play and he gave his heart to Jesus that night. The whole dynamic of our family changed. While still playing Bluegrass around age 17, I started playing in a Christian rock band called according to John. After that, I went out to tour with Artist like Third Day David Crowder, Natalie Grant and many others. Then in 2019 I was sitting in church and I had a thought clearly a God nudge to bring the Bluegrass back into what I was doing. So I put a Facebook message out there and said what are your favorite hymns that you would like to hear recorded Bluegrass style. And there was over 300 comments by the end of the day. So I took the first 10 and went with it. Released an album in 2020 and since then we put out three other volumes I have plans to do many more. We do about 30 shows a year and absolutely love it. If they call on our lives. We love going in and sharing the gospel, telling stories through a stripped down version of songs that they know. What we find so fascinating is as you can really keep on the lyrics when you stripped back all the noise of the big bands and all the loud instruments and really focus in all the words of these great songs. We do a blend of hymns, modern worship, and everything in between. Our latest release is called for the soul and that feature some old-time mountain songs that are very simple but catchy and easy to sing along with. All of those are available on streaming platforms.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a very smooth road paved by God. The only struggle and hard part is being away from my beautiful family. Wife of 27 years and three wonderful kids and a pretty awesome Shih Tzu..
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
When off the road I have a recording studio for 20 years and have produced artist by Third Day, Casting Crowns, Natalie Grant, Phil Wickham, elevation Mack Brock, and many others
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was very shy as a kid, but came out of my shell in the later teenage years due to being on the road and meeting new people every day. The shyness as a kid came from being probably the only Musician in public school. So there wasn’t too much in common with my age, but I could relate to adults very well. But again what’s my dad got saved when I got plugged into church the youth group drugged me in and that made things super sweet.
